EID SPECIAL

Mejbaur Rahman Sumon on Jaya

Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, Director

When I started working as a director, Jaya Ahsan was already an established name. Even though she was working with most of the major directors of that time, she never gave us any less importance. She was always a team player, doing anything in her power to make the project an overall success. I still remember one incident from the sets of Tarporo Angurlata Nondoke Bhalobashe. Even though the telefilm was based on prostitutes, we had made “safe” costumes for her to wear. She was strongly against it, and was adamant on completely capturing the essence of her role. We even had to do a “workshop” with prostitutes! That is how dedicated she is. The best thing about her will always be the fact that she always seeks to reinvent herself. She will never be typecast, and will always look for the next challenge. I would only request Jaya to keep on being this ambitious, and never settle for any “mainstream” role. She is meant for much bigger and challenging roles that not many others could do.
