Sarah Alam
RJ-ing, acting, modelling; Sarah Alam excels in all. Perhaps best known as 'Radio Foorti's RJ, she has undoubtedly managed to leave her mark in the entertainment industry. In an exclusive interview with Star Showbiz, she has talked about her career and life.
Could you share your journey from an RJ to an actor?
I started as an RJ in 2011, when I was still in school. That was a great experience for me. After that, I joined MTV Asia as their VJ, which had come to Bangladesh for two years for a test run. Then I joined Radio Foorti. The way I began acting is actually very surprising. The director of my movie had actually been on my show before. He was a mutual friend, and later, we became close friends as well. One day, he sent me a text saying “Sarah, I have a script for you. Would you like to read it and come to our office for an audition?” I told him that I really wasn't an expert in that field, and might not be what he's looking for, but I had fallen in love with the script and decided to go for it. That's how it all started.
What was the turning point in your career?
Radio Foorti, of course. Commercials of Unilever's Rin and Teletalk's Oporajita were turning points in my career as well. They completely changed my life, for the better, I hope.
Do you prefer hosting or anchoring over acting? Which are you more passionate about?
Acting, any day of the week. I don't mind hosting or anchoring, but I find those more difficult to do. Acting has been my passion forever.
What qualities does an aspiring RJ need, and who inspired you to get into this profession?
Qualities that an RJ should have are being impromptu, being able to speak properly in whichever language they choose to speak in, and most importantly, they need to be confident. And as for inspiration, Sadia inspired me a lot when she used to work for Radio Foorti as an RJ, back in the day.
What was your experience like working in 'Bengali Beauty'?
Working for Bengali Beauty was both enjoyable and challenging at the same time. As my role in the movie was of a real-life radio DJ, I faced some difficulties portraying her on camera. But I practised and learned to walk and talk like her. Moreover, the entire crew was amazing, and I never felt any pressure working on the big screen.
Are there any upcoming projects we should be looking forward to?
There are two upcoming movies, but they're at their very initial stage. So, I don't think there's much to hype about them. I'm just focusing on my nine-to-five job right now.
Any special message for the readers?
Be kind to one another. Be especially kind to street animals because they deserve the love, and your life is going to be beautiful once you learn to love them as well.
