Roohi

An actor, model, dance artist and a dance teacher- Nusrat Jannat Roohi is a rising star of our entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Star Showbiz, Roohi opens up about her passions and aspirations.

Tell us something about yourself.

I am a very organized person and I work according to set routines. I keep my work well coordinated and I do everything with sincerity and devotion. I have continued my studies beside dancing and working in television.I have done two Masters – one in Fashion Designing and the other in Dancing from Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and I have completed my honors from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT).I have been associated with the Bulbul Academy for Fine Arts as a dance teacher for 12 years now and besides that, I am also connected to the Dhaka South City Corporation as a dance teacher.

When did the passion for dancing begin?

As a child, I used to always dance and reciprocate the steps I saw on the television. When my grandfather used to see me dance in the family room in front of the television, he used to tell my mother to get me admitted to a dance school. So I started to go to a dance school alongside my regular school. Thus I can say that I was passionate about dancing from the very beginning of my life.

Could you share your journey from a dancer to a television artist and model?

My embarkation on the world of showbiz came from my dancing career. I used to teach dancing at an institution in Bangladesh Shishu Academy named Shugandha Sansriti Kendro. From time to time, I performed at various dance programs for both stage and television and while doing those, I was noticed and I came into limelight through a TVC. The year 1998 was the beginning of my showbiz career. After that I did plenty more TVCs, music video, telefilms, dramas and even anchoring. However after 2002 I put a halt to my acting and modeling career as I wanted to focus more on my studies. Then again in 2015, I returned to the world of showbiz full-fledged.

What was your turning point in your career?

For me everything is for dance and from dance. My roots as a professional dancer have brought me to this stage of my life and whatever I have done till date is because of my passion for dance.

Do you prefer modeling or acting over dancing? Which are you more passionate about?

As mentioned earlier my first and foremost preference is dancing and to be a dance instructor. After that comes acting. I do each of my work with the same enthusiasm and zeal and try to get the best result out of each project I do.

What qualities do you think an aspiring dancer and actor must possess?

Being a dancer myself, I believe, to be a successful professional dancer, one must work hard, be focused, and persevere. An artist must learn all the dance movements by heart and have the desire to always learn new techniques. Performing on stage or television professionally is a privilege and aspiring dancers must not be focused on stardom and pride; rather work hard because at the end efforts are acknowledged. Dancers are taught expressions and gestures that also contribute to the work of acting. An aspiring actor must watch lots of movies, read books, recite and they must have the practice of speaking with the correct pronunciation. One must groom themselves to be a role model and be an ideal human being, They must possess the ability to be any sort of character or role they are given. Each day should be a new learning for any artist and they must have the aspiration to be the best.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself as a very successful actor and also the thriving dancer in the industry. I want both of my careers to flourish equally.

Any new upcoming projects that we should look forward to?

I will be going to Bali, Indonesia, on the 15th of January to start shooting for some dramas that will be aired for Valentine’s Day and Pohela Boishak 2019.
