PLOT: An aged lawyer helps out three girls in a case where they have been framed under conspiracy to murder the nephew of a political leader.
REVIEW: The initial sequences of the film provide an ambiguous setting where two cars having three passengers each are moving in different directions, suggesting a connection due to parallel cutting. A man is bleeding and the girls look tense, suggesting a sinister night that has surrounded them; this is the story that leads to torturous days and eternal nights of worries for the three girls who spent the evening with the wrong crowd.
The movie is very different from that of the usual Hindi suspense films as there is no sound to enhance the tension, yet the film is terrifying due to its practical reason. The movie focuses strongly on sense of male superiority and distorted ideas of perfect womanhood in real-life that makes these women's lives complicated, disgusting and disturbing.
As expected, Amitabh Bachchan was the epicentre of the film, dominating with his overwhelming baritone that silences everyone and makes the audience think. The master did not however, take all the credit for the brilliance of the film. The three actresses did a splendid job at portraying average working women, making it very believable to accept the situation that they were in. They were not overshadowed by any aspect of the film in any way.
The screenplay is done brilliantly and attention to detail is clearly visible in it. The scenes kept shifting in a good pace without being dogmatic. However, there was not any notable piece of score in the film, which could have further pushed the intensity of the film.
The film has gripped the audience without a shred of doubt thanks to the intricacies of the case that unfold like a thriller. With an important social message and intriguing storytelling, the film is a complete entertainment.
