Plot: Shakib Khan being the son of the Bhuiyan family helps the Chowdhurys in time of need, when they pay a visit to their rural home. Years pass by as both the son and daughter of two different families of the same village blossoms into adults. A group of hooligans tries to kidnap Pori Moni and Shakib Khan rescues her as a knight in shining armor. Pori Moni introduces her savior to her father (Ali Raj), and they immediately reminisces the favor of the Bhuiyan family's son. Later, Ali Raj insists Shakib for accommodation. Eventually Shakib and Pori Moni falls for one another and Diti being Pori Moni's mother asks Shakib to leave the house. On the other hand, Chowdhury's business companion Amit Hasan devotes his attention towards Pori Moni, and tries to prove everyone that Shakib is an immoral soul. One day, Shakib and Pori Moni pays a visit to an astrologer and they get to know that Shakib's first wife would die within a short span of time but the second wife would live much longer. Keeping this in mind, Shakib gets married to another girl and Pori Moni's father ties her knot to Amit Hasan and their plan falls apart. Eventually, everything seems to recover for good in the end.

Review: The name of the movie comes off very confusing, as nothing from the overall story can be related to its title "Dhumketu". Nonetheless, if it was an action based movie the title would have made some sense. The movie initially advances in its own pace, but right after the interval it suddenly takes a different turn and becomes perplexing. Moreover, it appears as if the director lost track of his story and proving once again that Bangla movies usually lack standardized plot. Also, the dialogues were average in quality. The director really should have concentrated more on selecting a skillful cinematographer rather than focusing on locations. In contrast to that, the director did a promising job in terms of song selection as all of them were rhythmic. "Dhumketu" was the last film of the brilliant late actress Diti and till the end of her time she completed this role in a promising manner. Shakib Khan was quite okay, but it was understood by his costumes and haircut that he had been busy shooting for a long time and paid no heed to his looks for this movie. This became very annoying to endure, as in one scene he had long hair and in others his hair was short. After the interval Shakib's voice was dubbed by an amateur and it was very hysterical to witness. Pori Moni was articulate in her manner of acting from the beginning and in most scenes she stole the attention of everyone by her graceful appearance. Nevertheless, because of the story, the movie failed dreadfully.
