Ei Shohor, Ei Nogor

I usually never go out on Fridays, unless it is for a very special occasion. This week, a very close friend of mine invited me to a program. As I arrived, the program turned out to be the "green award" ceremony. The ceremony is hosted by Southeast Bank Limited, in conjunction with the Financial Express and Policy Research Institute. Every year, the award goes to entrepreneurs who raise environmental awareness by making their factories and workplaces 'green', so as to say. I am more than elated to say that my friend S.M Khaled has received this award. Khaled is the owner of Snowtex Apparels Ltd. While attending the ceremony, I continuously wondered why this initiative wasn't covered more extensively by the mainstream media.

The importance of environmental awareness cannot be overlooked at any cost, as our dear country is in danger from the most damage of global warming. My reason for writing this is partly to congratulate my close friend S.M Khaled and to ponder upon another question. What if our showbiz industry could adopt this initiative? We can unite to do something for our beloved country and city, whether it is a fund or a film based on the dangers of pollution and global warming. Our city has garnered much bad press because of pollution and disregard for the surroundings, it is time that we step up to make it better. I am positive that we from The Daily Star will help out as much as we can.
