A CHAT WITH AHONA

Sumaiya Afrin Ahona saw a sudden rise to fame after starting work as an RJ in a famous radio station. Now working full-time as both a TV and a radio anchor, she looks to expand her experience beyond these horizons. Star Showbiz presents a chat with the upcoming star.

How did you start your career as an RJ / TV show host ?

I have been involved in recitation and debate since my school days, and I used to do the anchoring for the shows in my school , college and university. One day while shooting for a short film a senior from my university told me about the "RJ Hunt Campaign"of Radio Next 93.2 FM. Then the journey of Radio began with the audition against around 6000 participants back in 2014. In the early 2016, I got a call from a friend of mine that ETV requires an anchor for their program "E-Tech" so I went there and sat for my very first television show. I would like to say that I am fortunate for having the RJ background which has always made my way smoother in television anchoring, hosting grand events, dubbing for TVC's or working as a voice artist of BBC World, which I am doing now.

What do you think are the most important qualities of an anchor?

Nothing is easy in this universe, but quality can provide with the scope of grabbing the opportunities. Being an RJ, anchor or voice artist requires some common qualities like perfect pronunciation, a good voice, having the ability to play with the vocal cords and being able to multitask. Above all, patience is the most important thing, because it takes a lot more than what we deliver to our audience in such professions. While shooting in front of the camera giving takes after takes, with careful expressions, heavy lights, makeups etc. are not that easy if someone doesn't hold his patience with passion and love for the profession.

Do you have any other hidden talents/hobbies?

I don't know if I should call these my hidden talents or hobbies but besides being a voice artist I am doing modeling for different fashion brands and magazines. Recitation and debate are also on my list. I love to write and maybe someday I will publish a book. And I have skills on fashion designing. Being a student of BBA I have some corporate qualities too.

What are your current projects ?

Currently I am busy doing Internship with a private bank , as I have just finished my BBA from Jahangirnagar University with a Major in Finance & Banking . I have two shows in Radio Next 93.2 FM titled as "Euphoria" and "Red Lipstick". On the other hand "E-Tech" and "Boichitre Bishwo" are the two shows of mine that are running on ETV. Hosting events, voice dubbing for TVC and modeling are going at an equal pace. Recently I am working on the upcoming music video of Prithwi Raj and Oyshee and also going through some discussions for an upcoming TVC shoot and voice dubbing for a cinema.

Do you plan to take up acting in the near future?

I believe in preparing myself before I jump into any work. I am receiving offers for TV serials and commercial cinemas from renowned directors. Hopefully I will get myself involved in acting as soon as I think I will be able to give my hundred percent towards it perfectly.
