Gujarat ka Lalla

A biopic on the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, titled PM Narendra Modi, received backlash from the opposition party, in the wake of the Lok Sabha elections. Congress demanded its release to be postponed, claiming that it is a propaganda in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Starring Vivek Oberoi in the titular role, the film allegedly romanticises Modi's stand during the Gujarat massacre. Experts claimed the film to have distorted reality, in order to win votes for the BJP. The film further evoked agitation when the producer of the forthcoming biopic denied receiving any legal notice from the Election Commission (EC), regarding the deferment of its release date, despite the opposition's petition. Previously, the EC had declared a ban on unauthorised promotional activities, labelling such behavior as "a violation of the model code of conduct". Call it a bias on the EC's part, or a childish denial of the producer, the biopic has induced a strong outcry throughout social media. Directed by Omung Kumar, the biopic released on April 5, 2019, six days ahead of the national elections. Initially, the film was supposed to hit the theaters on April 12.
