Defending ‘Kabir Singh’?

Ever since its release on June 21, 2019, Kabir Singh has sparked controversy amongst its audience, and was labelled misogynistic and regressive. Recently, acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap shared his views on the film. He claimed that a majority of Indian men possess the same ideologies and morals that were portrayed in the film, and said, "Kabir Singh does represent more than 75-80 per cent of urban India. Why not put it out? If I disagree with it, I won't see it. But sometimes it's necessary to see ourselves". He also added that while Bollywood has always focused on films that have happy endings or positive messages, it is equally important to create films that make people uncomfortable and encourage them to face the reality.
