A Chat With Parvez

So, Parvez! Let's talk about your new single that's out now.
My new single "Pagol" is out now on telecom music apps and the listeners can enjoy it there. The response is very good and the fans are reacting positively to it. A solo album will be published very soon with more songs. The album will be published in the CD format by CMV.

How was the response on your previous albums?
The response I had from my previous albums were good. My first solo album came out in 2009 and the last one was in 2012 titled "Prohor."

What type of songs do you prefer? It seems that you have a preference for Sufi music.
I try to perform all types of songs and like listening to various types of music genres, however I do prefer the Sufi genre a bit more than others when it comes to performing. Probably my voice goes well with Sufi songs and that's why I prefer it.

Which artists do you see as inspirational figures?
I really like Ustad Niaz Mohammad Chowdhury's music and I find it very inspiring. I also like the works of Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan a lot. All of their songs inspire me greatly, especially "Aaj Ei Brishti'r Kanna Dekhe," "Ek Taj Mohol," and "Ek Phota Bishad" by Ustad Niaz Mohammad Chowdhury.

When or through which songs did the fans first start noticing you?
I will have to say the song "Jabi Jodi" from the album "Hridoy Mix" was a turning point in my career as a musician. After that, the song "Poth" was a good hit among the fans. These two songs played iconic roles in making me who I am today. Other songs that were popular were "Ei Jibon," "Raat Kaadey," and "Jaaney Khoda."

What is your take on the current scenario of the industry in Bangladesh?
The medium of publishing music has changed through the ages. There were cassettes at one time, then came the era of CDs and now music is being published and sold online. I would say the variety of music is increasing and it is catering to the varied taste of the listeners. They are also able to access content more conveniently online and the artists are also earning money from online sources, so overall I think the industry is just going through its natural course of change.

Share something with your fans that people do not commonly know about you.
I can cook quite well, especially beef and chicken. I sometimes cook at home and this is something very few know about me.

You also perform playback songs for movies. How is that going?
I have performed playback for quite a few movies, "Shopno Je Tui" and "Bhalobasha Zindabar" to name a few. Recently I have performed in "Rajniti" and a few other upcoming films. The work is going well as all of the performances are somewhat Sufi songs.
