The Quintessential: Leap beyond Borders

After having established their names in the country, some of the actresses from Bangladesh made it to Kolkata to further their fame, paving their way for others to follow. Even though there have been several Bangladeshi actresses who entered this new arena, only few could make a huge impact in Kolkata. Showbiz has provided a list of talented actresses who started this trend and has been maintaining this movement.

Among the list of those who could usher themselves to making a name, the gorgeous Joya Ahsan is ahead of the game. Having debuted with Arindam Sil's "Aaborto", she has successfully established herself as an actress and has been receiving good media exposure in West Bengal. Popular actor from Kolkata, Abir was Joya's co-star in her debut. After that she was seen in "Akta Bangali Bhoot er Golpo", which was shown as a television premier in Kolkata. Subsequently, she catapulted her career with her performance in Srijit Mukhopadhyay's "Rajkahini", where her brief yet important role was appreciated by fans. The actress received a nomination in Filmfare Awards East for the Best Debutant Female. Next, she starred in the film "Bhalobashar Shohore",   directed by Indranil Roy Chowdhury, which was released on YouTube primarily. Arindam Sil's thriller "Eagle er Chokh", which is performing very well at the box office in Kolkata, also stars the Bangladeshi actress. Her noteworthy performance in the film has been talked about by everyone.

The next Bangladeshi actress who has taken Kolkata by storm is Sohana Saba. Debuting with her noir film "Shororipu" in Kolkata, the actress's performance was a subject of discussion among everyone and she welcomed all the controversies that came along with it. Directed by Ayon Chakroborty, the movie captured the attention of the audience, and the aftermath of the film has resonated to this side of the border. The movie included actor Indranil alongside Saba and at the moment, the actress is in talks with many directors regarding her next film in Kolkata.

Making her debut with the veteran actor in Kolkata, Prosenjeet, Kusum Sikder has made a name for herself with the film "Shonkhochil". The film has been appreciated in both parts of Bengal, receiving India's prestigious National award for Best Movie, before its release. However, there has not been any news of Kusum regarding her next film in Kolkata, ever since her debut.

The next actress in line to have stepped in on the other part of Bengal is Bidya Sinha Mim. The Lux Channel i Superstar winner made her debut in Kolkata with the film "Black" directed by Rajachandra, which was released last year. Her co-actor in the film was Soham Chakraborty. The movie could not create much of an impact in Kolkata, however, it received a somewhat positive response in Bangladesh.  Her next endeavour in Kolkata will include acting in the film "Rupkotha", alongside Soham.

A trendy new-comer, Nusrat Faria began her journey with the Indo-Bangla joint venture "Aashiqui" in 2015, along with her co-actor Ankush from West Bengal. It may not have been a blockbuster hit, but it did good business on both sides of the border. The music videos in the film garnered appreciation especially due to the glamour portrayed by Nusrat Faria. Her next project was the film "Hero 420", co-starring with the actors Om and Riya Sen from Kolkata. The film did not prove to be of much success, however, her latest joint venture film "Badshah- The Don", alongside the famous Jeet from Kolkata, won the hearts of many on both the Bengals and was a great success at the box office. It was the most well received film by far in Nusrat Faria's film career.

Another acclaimed actress of Bangladesh is Mahiya Mahi. She starred in the collective production of the film "Agnee 2" apace with Kolkata actor Om. The film stirred our local industry, but did not manage to do very well in the West. Her next undertaking was "Romeo vs Juliet" which was well-received on both sides of the border. The song "Bekheyali Mon" from the film was a favourite among the fans.

Recently, the talk of the town, Pori Moni has created a good hype in both the Bengals with her hit film "Rokto". The song titled "Dana Kata Pori" was an instant hit on YouTube and appealed to

the mass audience between the borders. Pori Moni has mentioned that talks are underway for more joint venture films in the near future.

Another film titled "Niyoti" was released in Kolkata a few months back. The film starred actor Arifin Shuvoo and actress Jolly. The film was not dominant in the industry and the actress failed to garner a big fanbase, resulting in the poor achievement so far.

The well-known actress Bobby is also in the list. She is scheduled to star in a Kolkata based film titled "Rong Berong". However, it is not yet known as to who will be co-starring along with her in the film.

The trend is on full swing right now, and Showbiz will keep the readers updated with the latest happenings on this subject.
