House of Cards

For a very long time now, I've been meaning to write a review for House of Cards. But when a series is as good as this one, it gets quite difficult to review it. I was hooked on this show from the moment Kevin Spacey looked straight into the camera and directly addressed the viewers, while doing something completely unexpected, which I shan't spoil for you.
Francis "Frank" Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a Democrat who is the House majority whip, was set to become the Secretary of State but got passed over. He then sets his mind not only on getting his sweet revenge, but also on achieving much more power. His grand scheme to rise through the ranks is revealed one bit at a time, as he manipulates others into making way for him. His wife, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), is equally twisted as he, but is always there to support him, using her NGO to make connections that will be beneficial to her and her husband's political agenda.  It is clear that Frank will stop at nothing till his ambitions are met, and he is even prepared to get his hands dirty if need be. And it is his journey to the top and beyond that comprises of the series' main plot. The character of Frank Underwood often talks directly to the audience, breaking the fourth wall, and that's when most of the notable quotes of the series take place, giving us an insight into the predatory mind of this man.
Those who are familiar with Kevin Spacey's dramatic acting will find him perfect for the ruthless, power hungry character he portrays in House of Cards. In fact, this role earned Kevin a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 2014. Robin Wright's acting in the series also got her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in the same category the year before.
Only 2 seasons of the series are available so far, each consisting of 13 episodes. The third season of the series will be released by Netflix on 27 February. If you are into political drama, I'd suggest you get your hands on the first two seasons of House of Cards and binge watch. It is one series that leaves you wanting more without excessive cliff-hangers.
