The Art of Sharing Happiness

United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) has always been a steadfast advocate of social awareness, and as such it maintains a permanent contribution in this field. "Eid for Street Children" is a major social programme observed annually by UNYSAB. With its most recent launch, UNYSAB once more beckons to the active youth of Bangladesh in showing them what tremendous role they can play in today's society. Through this programme, UNYSAB aimed to give these children a day of their lives they would never forget by arranging iftar for them and by giving clothes, toys and much more.

This year, the Eid for Street Children programme started its preparations since the beginning of June. It was quite challenging but the dedicated UNYSABians were relentless in their efforts. UNYSAB arranged a grand iftar at TSC, University of Dhaka that incorporated over 150 street children. Along with iftar, the UNYSABians also arranged a painting and mehedi festival for them, distributed clothes and study materials amongst them. After iftar, Chairman of UNYSAB and Chairman of the Department of Women and Gender Studies of the University of Dhaka, Syed Shaikh Imtiaz PhD, President of UNYSAB, Mohammad Mamun Mia and faculty member of Independent University Bangladesh Qantara K Khan, distributed clothes and story books among the children. At night, the children were safely sent to their homes.

UNYSAB conducted another iftar party similar to the one held on June 17. This took place in Rangpur, and was joined by over 100 street children. Another iftar party similar to this one was held on June 24 which took place in Rajshahi. The Rajshahi wing UNYSABians distributed clothes, school bags and study materials amongst them.

Two days before Eid, the final and most exciting part of this programme will be undertaken. The UNYSABians will hire a pick-up van to distribute clothes, shemai and other food items among street children.

Other segments of Eid for Street Children will be arranged within the next week. Besides, seven divisional wing UNYSAB will be approaching in Dinajpur in this week. This team will allocate funds to arrange an iftar party for the homeless kids and also to purchase and distribute study materials among them. The events are successfully organized due to the hard work and dedication of the UNYSABians who work tirelessly to put smiles on the faces of the underprivileged children and make their Eid memorable.
