5 great Steam games for 5 dollars or less

Everyone likes a good bargain on their games. Not everyone has the money to invest into a big title. But sometimes the cheap stuff in the "$5 and under" tab really gives you killer deals. Let's look at some of them right here.

DEUS EX: GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION ($3.99)

The Deus Ex franchise is well known for its dystopian cyberpunk setting and blend of FPS/RPG elements in its gameplay. While the original is a bit old for 2018, with choppy outdated controls and poor graphics, the plot and general gameplay are still exciting even now.

The general approach to how you develop JC Denton, your character, to fit your style of gameplay that reflects how you want to complete a level is great. The RPG elements work well with how you can interact with your character, the setting and the people. Definitely a classic that's worth revisiting despite having aged a bit poorly.

EMILY IS AWAY TOO ($4.99)

The 2017 sequel to Emily is Away, both games are a nostalgic blast to the past. Visual novels are often overlooked by serious gamers, but are often moving plot driven games, just like this one. While the first one is free to play, the 2017 sequel will cost you, but it is worth its price.

Anyone who was on the internet on the mid 2000s will remember the instant messaging chat clients of that time, and the game is all about choices you make on it as you interact with Emily, a fellow high school student. Unlike the original's linear story, this one's branching narrative will definitely give you reasons to replay it for the different endings.

KINDERGARTEN ($2.99)

Ever wanted to be in kindergarten again? Well, now's your chance with this strange looking game puzzle adventure that puts you in the role of a kindergartener trying to solve the mystery behind his school.

Innocuous pixel graphics shouldn't fool you: the game can and will be horrifying at times. But hey, it's all worth it for the crazy fun, dark humour, well, if you can stand the gore that it can provide sometimes.

STRONGHOLD HD ($3.49)

While the Stronghold franchise never reached the popularity of Age of Empires, it's still a fun RTS in its own right. The HD remaster definitely slightly improves on the outdated graphics while giving you all of the fun of an old classic.

Unlike AoE, while you don't just have combat here, you have economic missions as you develop your territory. There's also a highly entertaining campaign with a good story for you to play, as well as free build modes and a Siege mode based on real historical castles that you can attack/defend. All in all, great fun if you're looking for something a bit different in your RTS games.

BRAWLHALLA (FREE)

The only free game on this list, this is a great casual multiplayer fighting game, kinda like a discount Super Smash Bros. Every week you get a rotating list of fighters to try out with different playstyles that you can unlock by grinding or buying in-game currency with real money.

While it takes a bit to get used to, considering the large cast, it's frequently updated and easy to get the hang of after a while. Grab some friends and a controller and it's great fun for hours on end, all for the price of nothing.
