THE DAILY STAR GENIUS POWERED BY WALTON SMART FRIDGE

Utter domination by BAF SEMS in Match 7 of The Daily Star GENIUS

Match 7 of The Daily Star Genius powered by Walton Smart Fridge, an online inter-school quiz competition, took place on Monday between BAF Shaheen English Medium School, Changes,  and European Standard School (ESS). The fight was fought with quickness of wit, a test of who knew more about flags and cultures, about literature and film, and the vast history of Bangladesh.

Md Sameer Zia from BAF SEMS came out as the winner of this match, with Fairooj Rushmila from ESS coming in at second. Sanjana Jahan (Priyonti) from Changes wound up third, but the contest was defined by a big lead at the top and the other two contestants fighting it out among themselves. After the first five questions, Sameer was already ahead by a big margin, but after every five question interval, he kept extending his lead. Fairooj and Priyonti were tangled in a much closer fight, but after a while, Sameer seemed out of reach. After 25 questions, Sameer had a points total larger than that of the other two contestants combined. Eventually, however, with the great equalizing effect of the rapid fire round, the differences in points didn't look that stark, with all the contestants giving a good account of themselves answering questions that were equal parts interesting and challenging. In the end, the leaderboard predictably showed Sameer taking the win with 2112 points, far ahead of second placed Fairooj at 1170 points. Right behind her, Priyonti finished close by with 1036 points.

"I'm really happy I won. At the end of the day, I have to say it was really fun, I thoroughly enjoyed it," said a smiling Sameer at the end. He proceeds to the next round to compete with the other winners in the semifinal round and become the first ever The Daily Star GENIUS.
