Art is said to be the practice of imagination by creative minds. Notre Dame Art Club organised the first season of a new platform – Spectrum – where talented artists showcased their imagination. On September 6, 2019, creative minds gathered at the campus of Notre Dame College with the intention to participate in something new and exciting. Spectrum Season – 1, launched with the motto of ‘Starting something new’, had five attractive events for its inaugural season. Three of these were intra college and two were open for participants of all colleges. Young artists within Notre Dame College were heavily encouraged to participate in the intra events as an opportunity to steal the limelight. The Pencil Art, Anime Drawing, and Caricature competitions lived upto the promise as fresh talents within the college got a chance to shine. But the true show stopper were the open events – the Meme Competition and the Meme Exhibition. The Meme Competition required each participant to write down the captions of five given meme templates on paper within one hour. An accomplished judges’ panel comprising Asif Zaman (Rantages), Arfan Saleh (Khati Bangla Mimiz) and Shishir Chakraborty (Thakumar Jhuli Memes) along with lucrative prize money made the Meme Competition attractive to young meme enthusiasts and as a result, participation was overwhelming for this event. The participants found the templates difficult to interpret and competition was intense, making the event a stellar centre piece. For the Meme Exhibition, a wide range of memes submitted online before the event were exhibited on the auditorium walls and on projector screen in the exhibition room. The single day event from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM brought joy and laughter among visitors, making the whole spectacle mightily impressive.
