JU inaugurates international online debate tournament

Holding the motto "Let Be Lightened" the central debate organization of Jahangirnagar University, Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization (JUDO) is arranging the first ever international tournament in the history of Jahangirnagar University named TIB-JUDO Eminence Pre UADC 2020 on November 26-29, 2020. 

With the collaboration of Transperancy International Bangladesh (TIB), this tournament is going to be held in order to celebrate International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 and as a warm up event for the biggest debate competition of Asia, United Asian Debating Championship (UADC).

The president of JUDO, Tazrin Islam Tonny presided the ceremony where Moderator of JUDO, Professor of History Department Dr. ATM Atiqur Rahman; Director of Teacher Student Center JU and Professor of Statistics Department, Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir; Director of TIB, Sheikh Manjur-E-Alam, 

Founder President of JUDO and Manager of Rupali Bank Limited Green Road Branch, Abdullah Ahmed Chowdhury Mamun; Senior Executive Officer, Former General Secretary and Senior Executive Officer of Standard Bank Limited, Kawshik Azad Pronoy; Representative from Core Adjudicator Panel and Student of Monash University, Audrey Lee; Chair of Bangladesh Debate Council, Asif Mehedi Adi and the convener of the tournament Sumaiya Tasnova gave their speech with best wishes. 

The ceremony was hosted by the English Forum Co-ordinator Redeta Tahsin Audity. The ceremony was live streamed in the offical Facebook page of JUDO and TIB.

With the theme of 'Zero Corruption in Covid Response: Stop Corruption, Save Lives' the inaugural ceremony of the tournament was held and Dr. ATM Atiqur Rahman congratulated JUDO for introducing Jahangirnagar University to the world being the host of the first ever international debate tournament. 

Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir said, "Youth generation will get the opportunity to raise their voice against the corruption in COVID response and we hope that people will be more empathetic towards each other while practicing debate in this pandemic."

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, who inaugurated the ceremony said, "With the celebration of International Anti-Corruption Day, We're very happy to be a part of this tournament collaborating with JUDO. Through this tournament the voice of youth generation will reach to the world more strongly to create a corruption-free society. While the educational institutions are off in this pandemic, planning such an amazing initiative is the proof of the competency and courage of JUDO members. We hope that, all of the stakeholders will be aware to take necessary steps to stop corruption and will show their gratitude to this initiative of youths to stop corruption."

Without any registration fee, 32 teams from all over the world and debaters and top-notch adjudicators from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand are participating in this tournament. More than 50 debate rounds being held on November 27-28, the Grand Finale will take place on November 29. On the same day a mesmerising cultural function will be held. A webinar on 'The Importance of Good Governance to Prevent COVID' with many renowned personalities of the country, Directors of TIB and Anti-Corruption Commission and faculty members of Jahangirnagar University and the result announcement and prize giving ceremony will add colours to this event on December 2. JUDO has been working as the central debate organization of Jahangirnagar University and spreading the art of words through training, practicing and organising debates in order to make create rational human beings in the society since 2005. Even at this stagnant period during the pandemic, this organization has recently earned the crown of the 'Best Club Award 2020' in Excellence Bangladesh Club Summit from more than 100 university leveled club of Bangladesh, organised by The Daily Star-Midas Financing Limited in recognition for its continuous contribution.
