Drishti: A Vision to Look Out For

Drishti came to life on December 16, 2019 after six months of hard work and research done by the president of this student-led community organisation, Rayyan Afzal, a Grade 10 student of South Breeze School, Dhaka.

Rayyan started Drishti with the hopes of working with people who were equally as passionate and diligent about uplifting the lives of the most vulnerable and marginalised people of Bangladesh through efficient and innovative ways. Drishti has 25 members from South Breeze, Sunbeams, Aga Khan School, Bangladesh International Tutorial and Sunnydale. Drishti's first project was in December of 2019 and included 70 volunteers distributing 6500 packets of clothes and around 700 blankets in the northern regions and areas in Dhaka of Bangladesh in 10 days. Their most recent initiative, Project Prottasha, aimed to distribute necessities all over Bangladesh to daily wage earners who were the most vulnerable due to Covid-19. "Prottasha" means "hope" in Bangla and the project was named as such to reignite the lost hope of the daily wage earners as a result of losing their sources of incomes because of declining demand of their services in the recent pandemic.

In two weeks, Drishti worked to raise Tk. 5,00,000 in donations, which helped them to distribute to 1000 families, necessities that would last them a week, with the help of other organisations in areas of Uttara, around Koshai Bari, Mirpur DOHS, Montola and its neighbouring village in Cumilla. Transitioning into the next project, Drishti introduced Project Sabr during the holy month of Ramadan to continue helping the most helpless of people. As youths, every member of Drishti believes that working together as a community and helping the most vulnerable is the way to truly uplift our great nation. During this crucial time, the organisations ask those who are privileged to honour their responsibility as citizens and members of this society, and donate any amount they can to uplift those who are disadvantaged.
