THE DAILY STAR GENIUS POWERED BY WALTON SMART FRIDGE

CIDER in cruise control in Match 6 of The Daily Star GENIUS

Match 6 of The Daily Star GENIUS powered by Walton Smart Fridge, an online inter-school quiz competition, took place on November 9 between Willes Little Flower School & College, Averroes International School (AIS) and CIDER International School. The contest was one of knowledge, of who knew more about Switzerland and the world wars, about Jibonananda and Satyajit, and all that encompasses.

Shahir Raeed from CIDER came out as the winner of this match, with Fatimah Afzal from AIS slotting in at second. Anik from Willes ended up third, but the contest was full of many storylines and subplots. After the first five questions, Fatimah was ahead by a small margin, but after ten, it was Raeed. Anik was a fair way behind but after 15 questions, things looked very different. Raeed started to build a lead from this point that eventually turned out to be unassailable. After 30 questions, before the start of the now infamous Rapid Fire round, Raeed had a lead bigger than 500 points. On the other hand, Anik and Fatimah were fighting it out for second with less than 100 points between them. In the end however, the leaderboard didn't change drastically. Raeed finished with 1717 points, way ahead of second placed Fatimah on 1130 points. Anik was extremely close behind on third, ending up with a solid 1114 points.

"I wasn't very optimistic about winning. This game was hectic, I was hoping for the win but it was unexpected for me," said a visibly happy Raeed. He proceeds to the next round to complete the quota of the first two semifinals, to compete with the other winners and become the first-ever The Daily Star GENIUS.

The Daily Star GENIUS powered by Walton Smart Fridge is an initiative of SHOUT. Episodes are aired live at 9 PM every Monday on The Daily Star and SHOUT's Facebook page, as well as The Daily Star's YouTube channel and website.
