A Carnival for Sports Lovers

The mornings of January 28 and 29 brought with them an excited buzzing and a crowd of enthusiastic young teenagers dressed in black, scurrying about getting food, banners and other things ready. Soon more young individuals in sports jerseys joined in carrying their weapons of choice – as in their preferred sports equipments, and this bunch of young people had never looked sprightlier. This was Winter Fiesta, hosted at APBN Field, Uttara.

Winter Fiesta, affectionately dubbed WiFi'17 by the organisers, hosted a variety of different sporting events: basketball, badminton, and football for both girls and boys. An assortment of young individuals in high school had all stepped up to showcase their talents, courtesy of Ember Bangladesh, who had previously hosted WriteFights 2016, and Youth Awakening, a writing competition and a session by various enlightening people respectively. With more than 300 participants and the event running for an entirety of two days, it was bound to be a success.

MadChef was present with their cart where players could enjoy a hearty meal after their matches. The weather was pleasant, carefully chosen by the organisers and the playing field was adequately readied. At the end of the gruelling but very entertaining two days, the winners in the fields of female basketball, male basketball, football, doubles badminton were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.

The event also saw a brilliant display of sportsmanship and good behaviour. The players made friends, interacted and learned from one another. Everybody involved certainly walked away with memories that they would be cherishing for years to come, regardless of whether or not they won an award. When asked about the event, Ember Bangladesh said that they were glad to have been able to pull off such an event and are lucky to have a set of extremely dedicated individuals who made the magic happen – not to mention super talented participants.

When the organisation was first founded, its objective was to prepare the youth for the challenges and hurdles they would face in real life through a variety of events, workshops and sessions to test, try and eventually awaken their true potential. They have already catered to many young teenagers in Bangladesh who feel that they are indeed suited for the opportunities that they are presented.

Ember hopes that they have paved the way for future star athletes and hopes to empower the youth of Bangladesh for many more days to come. Stay tuned for their next event, each one promised to be better and more innovative than the last.
