NSU celebrates Bengali New Year 1425 with much festivity

Pahela Baishakh marks the arrival of the Bengali New Year, part of a unique calendar system determined by the seasons. Bengalis all around the world wait for this day to make merry and indulge to their heart's content and North South University (NSU) celebrated this year with new hopes and festivities keeping the traditions alive.

Students, faculty members, and staff members of NSU welcomed "Nobobarsha 1425" on April 14, 2018 with its joyous significance. They participated in the elaborate festivities that included dressing up in traditional garb, and attending the parades showcasing talented Bengali artists and performers. The celebrations began with a colourful rally around the campus, where students carried handmade multi-coloured festoons, sculptures, and art projects to welcome the Bengali New Year.

A formal inauguration was held after the rally where M.A. Kashem and Azim Uddin Ahmed, Members of the BOT; Prof. G. U. Ahsan, VC (In-charge); and Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Mohammad Saber, Convener of the programme delivered short speeches. Among others, faculty and senior administrative members were present.

Nagar Baul James joined the NSU family to celebrate the festival of Baishakh and played a remarkable set-list in the occasion. The festival continued with Folk presentations, circus, puppet show, and many other ceremonies. A traditional fair was organised by NSU Sangskritik Sangathan.
