South Point students achieve gold in international chess and karate contests

Warsia Khushbu and Mrinmoy Roy, students of South Point School and College, have received gold medals at the Asian School Chess Competition and the International Karate (Kata) Contest, respectively. 

Both events were held virtually due to the ongoing situation with the pandemic. The chess competition was held on July 23 while the karate contest took place from July 18 to 20.

At the chess competition, Warsia Khushbu, 9, from the English Medium section scored eight points in total and achieved the gold medal. A total of 361 students from different schools around Asia participated in the girls category where Warsia came out on top as the champion.

On the part of Bangladesh, South Point Sports Club – SPSC – participated in the International Karate (Kata) Contest arranged by the World Martial Art Development. Here, Mrinmoy Roy achieved gold. Other contestants from South Point, namely Anjuman Haque, got the silver medal, and Deep Roy, and Munjerin Rahman both achieved bronze medals. Several hundred players from different countries including 40 from Bangladesh participated in this contest.

Saukat Siddique, sports coordinator of South Point School and College, shouldered the responsibility as team manager of the said contests while Deen Islam from Bangladesh Karate Federation saw things over as the coach.
