Project Green Cox’s Bazar: A green initiative of JCI Bangladesh celebrating World Environment Day 2022

Aligning with the SDG agenda, Project Green Cox's Bazar began on the initiative of five local organizations of JCI Bangladesh to maintain the harmony of the environment. In this project, JCI Bangladesh started afforestation in the marine drive area of Cox's Bazar. Also, trees are being distributed in the local schools to inspire the students on plantation.

Furthermore, they are going to arrange many awareness sessions and seminars with the relevant local stakeholders, forest department and international chapters of JCI. Department of Forest has been also supporting and encouraging this project through many ways and working collaboratively.

As the chief guest, Shaimum Sarwar Kamal MP inaugurated the project at Cox's Bazar. Cox's Bazar Press Club General Secretary Mujibul Islam was present as a special guest. Fahim Ahmed, Local President of JCI Dhaka Ace, was present as the chief coordinator of the project. Local President of JCI Cox's Bazar Abu Farhan, Local President of JCI Dhaka West Md. Altamis Nabil, Local President of JCI Chittagong Abu Bakar Shahed Shaan, and Local President of JCI Dhaka United Md. Azazul Hasan Khan were present too. The event was further graced by the presence of Khadiza Akter, Chairperson, National Digital Transformation Committee, JCI Bangladesh.

Shaimum Sarwar Kamal MP said Cox's Bazar is a disaster-prone area. Due to the dredging of Bakkhali and construction of some dams, there has been no catastrophic flood in the last four years. But one has to be prepared for any flood. The young generation must come forward to save lives and property in the floods, where JCI Bangladesh can play a big role.

He added, "I am very happy to be associated with a great initiative like Project Green Cox's Bazar. As far as I know, the local organizations of JCI Bangladesh have been regularly organizing various activities for the protection of the country and environment. Project Green Cox's Bazar is undoubtedly a commendable initiative in that regard. I would like to thank all those involved in this project and wish them all the best.

Fahim Ahmed, Chief Coordinator of the project and Local President of JCI Dhaka Ace, said global warming posed a serious threat to the world. The theme of this year's World Environment Day is "Only One Earth". So, to save planet earth, there is no alternative to planting more trees. With that in mind, they have taken the initiative of afforestation through Project Green Cox's Bazar.

Mujibul Islam said that the world environment is being threatened every day. At such a time, this initiative to protect the environment really deserves praise.

In conclusion, in the spirit of World Environment Day, this project will encourage people to come forward to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions. The objective is to save the world's largest beach from any sort of natural disaster.
