NSU MIBC hosts first season of AMELIOR

Marketing and International Business Club of North South University (NSUMIBC) successfully hosted the first season of a series of skill development seminars titled "AMELIOR". Through the event, the club wishes to help groom the upcoming youth with the required skills to excel in the corporate field, and they found it essential to elevate women before all else. Le Reve presents "Amelior: Athena" powered by Matador Group and Auko-Tex Limited was conducted by four women who have established themselves as exemplary corporate leaders. The idea was that these women represent Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom.

Syeda Afzalun Nessa, Manager, Corporate Sustainability at HSBC, shared her experience and knowledge about tackling corporate challenges and being prepared for them under the theme of "Challenging Unconventional". Head of Corporate Communications, IPDC Finance Mahzabin Ferdous shared her insights on "Brand Communications", where she advised students about branding and how to gather experiences. The owner of Red Window, Bheja Fry, and Tokyo Express, Shababa Ishmam inspired the audience with her encouraging outlook on "Entrepreneurship". The last session was regulated by the chief speaker of the event Dr. Rubana Huq, the first female president of BGMEA. She spoke of "Empowerment", the current situation of the textiles industry of Bangladesh—what can be done to strengthen it globally and how the youth of today can contribute to it.

The programme was attended by Pro-VC Dr. M. Ismail Hossain along with the Chairman of Marketing and International Business Department Mohammad Tayeenul Haque, Director of Student Affairs Parisa Shakur, and other faculty members. 

Sellsation 2019 captures the art of selling

Spartans' Communication Club, along with GPH Ispat Limited and Crown Cement Group, organised "Sellsation 2019" at Six Seasons Hotel, Gulshan 2 on November 30, 2019.

After an online round, 48 teams managed to proceed to the instant round and then 12 teams made it to the Game of Sales—a unique round which judged the practical skills of selling of the teams, held at Dhaka Residential Model School. Six teams battled it out in the grand finale. Team Threadbare, Now or Never, and Grey Matters became the champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up respectively.

Ovick Alam, Co-Founder and Chairman of WebAble Digital; Koushik Prashad Pathak, Assistant Professor of Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka; and Md. Khaled Hassan, Manager, Primary Market Services, LankaBangla Investment Limited were the judges. Masud Khan, Chief Adviser, Crown Cement Group and Kamrul Ahsan, Executive Director, Finance and Business Development, GPH Ispat Limited were also present at the grand finale as special guests.

The judges and special guests commended Spartans' Communication Club for arranging such a competition that cherishes youthful energy and practicality of business. The Daily Star was the Print Media Partner of the event.   

 

DPS STS Dhaka students receive Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards 2019

Cambridge International has conferred an impressive Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in Bangladesh, where nine students from DPS STS School Dhaka have received 12 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.

Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards are a group of awards given by Cambridge Assessment International Education. They recognise exceptional learner achievements in Cambridge examinations around the world. The primary purpose of these awards is to celebrate and recognize the success of high-performing Cambridge learners.

Students from schools under foreign curriculum across Bangladesh were recognised for their outstanding academic achievements at an awards ceremony at International Convention City Bashundhara on December 14, 2019. The students from DPS STS School Dhaka that have received the awards are: Aariyan Bin Shahriar for Top in the World Award (Mathematics); Syed Shehzar Ahmed for Best Across 8 Cambridge IGCSE's Award, and also Top in Bangladesh for IGCSE ICT subject; Puru Vaish received Best Across 3 Cambridge International A Levels Award, and also Top in Bangladesh for A Level Chemistry and Computer Science subjects; and Faiza Tasnim Zaman for Top in Bangladesh in AS Level Award for Economics.

Three more students from DPS STS received Top in Bangladesh in IGCSE Awards: Nayeema Siraj for Physics; Fahmid Shahrier for Economics; and Zaheer Abbas for Business Studies. Two students have received High Achievement in IGCSE Awards: Aariyana Hussain for Environmental Management, and Aryana Eelma Rahman for Computer Science.

On this occasion, Harsh Wal, Principal of DPS STS said, "It gives us an immense joy to witness our learners accomplish their goals and dreams with the help of Cambridge International. I would like to congratulate all the students who have received the awards and may this be the springboard for even further success as leaders of our country, Bangladesh. We would also like to thank all the teachers and parents who supported and guided the learners towards the correct path and helped them achieve such success." 

 

IQAC of BUBT holds seminar on Teaching and Professional Development

Ahmed Mustafa, Professor of Biology, Purdue University Fort Wayne, USA conducted a seminar on Teaching and Professional Development at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) campus on December 29, 2019. Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of BUBT arranged the seminar. Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT, AFM Sarwar Kamal, Convener, International Relations Advisory Committee, BUBT, and Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business and of Social Sciences also addressed teachers of BUBT. The seminar focused on good teaching for branding higher education of Bangladesh.

Distinguished guests, members of BUBT Trust, Treasurer, Students Affairs Advisor, Deans of various faculties, senior professors, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Chairmen of Departments, Joint Registrar, Proctor and other officials were present.  

UIU holds Research Grant Awarding Ceremony 2019

The inaugural ceremony of UIU Research Grant Awarding Ceremony 2019 was held on December 29, 2019 at UIU Multipurpose Hall. The programme was organised by Institute for Advanced Research (IAR). Architect Yeafesh Osman, Minister of Science and Technology was present as the chief guest. Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, Managing Director, United Group; Prof. Fahmida Chowdhury, Program Director, National Science Foundation, USA; and Munir Hasan, Head, Youth Program, Prothom Alo were present as special guests. Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, VC, UIU presided over the programme and welcome speech was conducted by Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, Executive Director, IAR, UIU. 

United International University (UIU) has taken a pioneering initiative through IAR to provide Research Fund for interested researcher from UIU and other institutes at home and abroad. Despite the fact that IAR was formally established in 2019, UIU had been granting research funds since 2016 and funded 31 research projects under "UIU Research Grant Scheme" amounting BDT 16,085,620. So far, 11 papers has been published in reputed international journals from the UIU-funded projects.

In 2019, 12 research proposals from national and international participants received a total research grant of BDT 10,147,171.
