MACES organises Annual Personal Statement Writing Competition 

MACES, a leading education consultancy firm in Bangladesh, announces the launch of their 4th Annual Personal Statement Writing Competition for the high school students looking to study abroad.

Eleven A Level schools from Dhaka and Chattogram participated in 2018 with total number of registrations exceeding 500. DPS STS School's Ashaduzzaman Joy was the winner while Maple Leaf International School's Samin Mushfiqur Rahman and Presidency International School Chittagong's Mansib Muktadir were the runners-up.

To help students prepare for the competition, MACES invited George Casley, Academic Director of CATS Education, Cambridge, UK to conduct workshops on writing personal statement. Judges from eight world renowned universities: University of Glasgow, University of Birmingham, Queen Marry University of London, City University of London, CATS Academy Cambridge, University of Nottingham, University of York, and Coventry University will be judging the essays submitted by contestants.

Participating in the competition gives students training for writing their university application essays and the chance to have their essays reviewed by prestigious universities. Students can register online for the competition by going to http://bit.ly/PSWC2019_Registration

IUB hosts conference on "Quadrangulated Quandary"

A daylong Conference titled "Quadrangulated Quandary" was held at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on July 4, 2019 at the university campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The event was organised by the Global Studies and Governance (GSG) Program of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) at IUB.

Though quandary is a universal problem, GSG focuses on Bangladesh to illustrate the problems and prospects. Four tensions challenging policy-makers have been selected for analysis: globalization-localization; information and communications technological revolutions; gender; and the environment.

Prof. Milan Pagon, VC (Acting), IUB welcomed the guests to the conference. Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister; Abul Hasan Chowdhury, former State Minister, Foreign Affairs; Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Distinguished Fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue; A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB; and Dr. Imtiaz A. Hussain, Dean (Acting), SLASS, IUB were present in the ceremony and delivered speeches on the occasion.

Dr. Niaz Zaman, Advisor, Department of English and Modern Languages, IUB delivered formal vote of thanks.

Throughout the day, four plenary sessions were held to clinch the objectives of the conference. In total, 18 highly credible papers were presented while country's renowned educationist, scholars, policymakers, civil society leaders, media experts and professional specialists took part in presenting papers and discussing on various topics and issues.

Members from the faculty and administration, students and distinguished guests witnessed the daylong conference enthusiastically.

Career Society of BAUST organises "Job Fair 2019"

The Career Society of BAUST, on June 26, 2019, organised "CSB Job Fair 2019" for students to prepare for career choice, career guidance and employment opportunities at Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST), Syedpur Cantonment.

The programme was inaugurated by VC Brig. Gen. Prof. Dr. Md Lutfor Rahman. A lecture was given by the university's Treasurer, Colonel Md Neamul Islam Fatemi (Retd.) Bir Protik, BGBM, afwc, psc .The programme was attended by academic and administration officers; Programme Coordinator Md. Rasheduzzaman Ratul; President of the Career Society Atiq Rahman; General Secretary Rumana Jasmin; other Career Society of BAUST members and general students.

The fair was organised to give students the opportunity to learn about the activities of different companies and help in the selection of preferred career. Also, a motive was allowing participating organisations to have the option of selecting the preferred candidates to achieve their business and activity goals and lastly, to teach oneself about proper career guidance in job interviews.

Brig. Gen. Prof. Dr. Md Lutfor Rahman in his speech said that such a programme will lead students to further progress, as well as accelerate the recruitment process by connecting corporate institutions with graduate students and help in eliminating obstacles in future workplace.

IUBAT delegates attend workshop in China

A three-member delegation from College of Agricultural Sciences of IUBAT attended an international workshop at Yunnan University, China on June 24-30, 2019.

The team comprised of Prof. Dr. Mujibur Rahman Khan, Dr. Farjana Sultana and Dr. Shaila Sharmin. The workshop on "Perennial Rice Research" was organised by Yunnan University in Kunming, China. Under an MoU with Yunnan University, IUBAT is conducting joint research on perennial rice in Bangladesh.

Twenty delegates from Australia, Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam attended the workshop. Dr. MR Khan presented a report on Perennial Rice Research in Bangladesh. Ex-DG of IRRI, Dr. Lane Wade and others participants appreciated the report where Dr. Farjana Sultana was the duties of the rapporteur of the workshop.

GUB hosts pop-up campaign by British Council

With much enthusiasm, British Council in association with Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) organised a day-long pop-up event concentrating on co-curricular and career activities on July 3, 2019 at GUB premises.

The event commenced with the inauguration of the Digital Wall by Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, VC of GUB, and Sebastian Pears, Director of Examinations, British Council. The Digital Wall will give opportunity to the students of GUB to get access to the unlimited resources of British Council Library. Followed by the inauguration, experts from British Council facilitated productive sessions on Digital Library induction, IELTS tips and tricks, basics of Microsoft Excel and Photoshop workshop and Career to British Council along with day-long film screening session. The event closed with a spectacular performance by GUB students.

AIUB participates AUAP-IAUP Joint International Conference 2019

American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) participated in the 2nd AUAP-IAUP Joint International Conference 2019 and Sias University's 20th anniversary Celebration, held from May 23-25, 2019. The conference was hosted by Sias International University, Henan, China. The theme of the conference was "Future Higher Education Model and Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges". Ziarat H. Khan, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Business Administration and Deputy Director of Student Service and Welfare, OSA, AIUB represented AIUB on behalf of Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, VC of AIUB in the conference. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Shawn Chen, Founder and Chairman of Sias International University and Treasurer of IAUP. Prof. Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, President of Association of Universities of the Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) and Dr. Kakha Shengelia President of International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) were distinguished guests during the event.

UIU arranges Career Hunt Plus

United International University (UIU) organises a programme titled "UIU Career Hunt Plus" on June 30, 2019 at UIU Multipurpose Hall.

A total of 250 students comprising O and A Level from five renowned English medium schools across the capital including Academia English Medium School, Heed International School, Juvenile English Medium School, Methodist English Medium School and Cherry Blossom International School and College took part in the programme. Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, VC, UIU, was present as the chief guest where Prof. Dr. Hasan Sarwar, CSE Department, UIU; Md Tajdin Hassan, Head of Marketing, The Daily Star; and Manjurul Haque Khan, Director, Directorate of Student Affairs & Career Counseling Center, UIU shared their views on career and goal with the students.

Later, students participated in a quiz competition where Nadia Sheikh from Heed International School became the champion and Labib from Academia and Towsif Rahman from Heed International became first and second runners-up respectively. The programme ended with a cultural performance by UIU Cultural Club.
