ULAB signs MoU with Keele University, UK

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Keele University, UK signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on April 6, 2019 at the ULAB permanent campus in Mohammadpur. The aim of the MoU between ULAB and the Keele University is to have joint research between Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), ULAB and Keele University, application of grants through collaboration, student exchange programmes, and teaching opportunities in both the institutions.

For the MoU signing ceremony, ULAB was represented by the VC, Prof. Dr. HM Jahirul Haque, while Keele University was represented by Dr. Sharon George, Course Director MSc ES & GT. University officials participating from ULAB included Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the BoT; Director of CSD Dr. Samiya Selim accompanied by other CSD faculty members. Representatives from Keele University included Prof. Carolyn Roberts, Dr. Simon George, Dr. Adam Moolna, Ash Hulme along with Parveen Begum and Mark Maurice from Solisco, UK.

Founded in 1949 by former VC of the University of Oxford A.D. Lindsay, Keele University are tackling some of society's most urgent challenges, including ageing, global health and renewable energy. Keele University strives to embed sustainability across all their activities, spanning research, education, business processes, campus and community, as well as for their external engagement with partners and business.

On the other hand, CSD, ULAB is one of the leading research centres in Bangladesh on sustainable development working on the Sustainable Development Goals and researching on issues related to it.

 

Faculty development workshop held at IUBAT

As part of the regular Faculty Development Program (FDP) of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), a daylong faculty orientation was organised for its faculty members on April 8, 2019 for the Summer 2019 semester at the permanent campus of the university in Uttara. The orientation emphasised teaching ethics, quality of education, teaching methods and methodology, administration, use of IT, and automation systems.

The speakers were VC Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab; Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum; Treasurer and Head of FDP Prof. Selina Nargis; Registrar Prof. M Lutfar Rahman; Controller of Examinations Brig. Gen. Dr. Md Zahid Hossain (Retd.); Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Md. Monirul Islam; College of Agricultural Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Md. Shohidullah Miah; Assistant Professor Kaniz Kakon and others.

The daylong programme concluded with exuberance and optimism for better education and continuous improvement.

 

EWU elects new Board of Trustees Chairperson

One of the founders of East West University (EWU) and former Adviser to caretaker government of Bangladesh, Syed Manzur Elahi, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the EWU Board of Trustees on April 4, 2019. Prominent businessman Syed Manzur Elahi took over this position from the outgoing Chairperson and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin has now been appointed as the Chief Adviser of EWU. Other members of the Board of Trustee, EWU and the VC of the university were present on the occasion.

 

SEU Mooters win 1st NILS-LWM International Law Fest 

Southeast University (SEU) Mooters won the championship in the 1st Network for International Law Students (NILS)-Liberation War Museum (LWM) International Law Fest held fromApril 4-6, 2019 at Liberation War Museum, Dhaka. The inaugural ceremony of the fest took place in Liberation War Museum Auditorium and it was conducted by Mofidul Hoque, Trustee, Liberation War Museum.

The participating team from SEU consists Luthfunnahar Shancyi and Tashib Hasan as Mooters, Hasan Mahmud Ayon as Researcher and coached by Sadia Siraj. Among 15 participants of student conference on "Genocide and Justice", Ashraf Uddin Ahmed presented his paper on "International Crimes Tribunal Bangladesh: Aftermaths and Challenges of Domestic Tribunal". Susmita Sarmin and Shanto Datta participated in quiz contest. The chief guest of the closing ceremony was Obaidul Hassan, Justice, Supreme Court of Bangladesh. SEU team proceeded to the finals by defeating Jahangirnagar University and emerged as the champion team by beating East West University. Shancyi bagged the Best Advocate Award for her excellent performance. A number of public and private universities from around the country participated in the fest as participants and observers.

NSU organises rally and health camp to observe World Health Day

North South University (NSU) organised a rally and health camp to observe World Health Day on April 7, 2019. The rally started at 10:30 am from NSU campus.After the rally, two booths were set up for blood grouping, BMI measurements, and nutrition consultation. Pro-VC (Designate) Prof. Dr. GU Ahsan was present as the chief guest.

Among others, Deans of different schools, Directors, administrative heads, faculty members, senior officials and students were present. Tamanna Chowdhury, principal dietician, Apollo Hospitals Ltd and her team were present at the booth.

 

UIU holds IT Career Fair 2019

United International University (UIU) CSE Alumni Association and Dept. of CSE organised "UIU IT Career Fair 2019" for the second time on April 6-7, 2019 supported by UIU Career Counselling Center, UIU Computer Club and UIU APP Forum. Addressing the fair as chief guest Prof. Dr. Md Akhtar Hossain, Member of UGC praised UIU for shifting to its permanent green campus within stipulated time and for maintaining a high academic standard. UIU VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, President of UIU CSE Alumni Association Feroj Bapari and Director of Career Counselling Center Manjurul Haque Khan were present in the programme.

Renowned IT companies interviewed fresh graduates of CSE department for recruitment on the first day of the fair. On the second day, a panel discussion titled "Future of IT education aligned with IT evolution" was held at UIU Multipurpose Hall. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, VC of Canadian University of Bangladesh; Zakaria Swapan, Founder and CEO of iPay Systems Ltd; Manjur Mahmud, Director and COO of Datasoft Ltd ; Mehedi Masud, Director of BJIT Ltd; and Shaer Hasan, CEO of Nascenia were the speakers of the panel hosted by Prof. Dr. Hasan Sarwar of CSE department. They addressed the current setbacks and potentials of IT market of Bangladesh as well as the future of fresh blood in the field of IT.
