ULAB hosts photo exhibition by Nepalese photographer Renuka Khatiwada

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a photo exhibition by Nepalese photographer Renuka Khatiwada at its Campus A in Dhanmondi on January 15, 2018. Khatiwada's project primarily took a close look at Dhaka and Kathmandu to compare the two cities as part of the Comparative South Asian Urban Studies project.

Prof. Dr. H M Jahirul Haque, VC, ULAB inaugurated the exhibition. Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB BOT; Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, Pro-VC, ULAB; Prof. Syed Mazoorul Islam, Department of English and Humanities, ULAB; and Prof. Arun Gupto, Principal, Pokhara University, Nepal, were present at the ceremony.

Renuka Khatiwada is a visual studies researcher at South Asian Foundation for Academic Research (SAFAR). She is working on a documentary titled "Four Gray Walls and Four Gray Towers" which focuses on Kathmandu and includes images from Dhaka and Chattogram.

 

 

BUBT holds seminar on entrepreneurship

The Career Guidance Office (CGO) of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organised a seminar on "History of a Successful Entrepreneur: Late Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury (Retd.), Founder of PRAN-RFL Group" on January 13, 2019 in the International Conference Hall of BUBT Permanent Campus, Rupnagar, Mirpur-2.

Mohamed Kaisar Haq, Director, International Partnership, PRAN-RFL Group conducted the seminar as the keynote speaker while Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC, BUBT presided over and Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Chairman, BUBT Trust was present as chief guest. Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Advisor, Career Guidance Office, BUBT delivered the welcome speech.

The keynote speaker presented the secrets and principles of entrepreneurship setting PRAN-RFL's founder as an example. He described that entrepreneurship is not just a job of owning a business; it could be teaching in a school, doing social works in a village or becoming a politician for the country etc.

Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Treasurer, BUBT; Prof. Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC-BUBT; Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business; faculty members and other officials were present in the seminar.

 

EU hosts seminar on climate change

A seminar on the outcome of recent climate conference in Poland was held at Eastern University (EU) on January 16, 2018 at the seminar hall of the university. Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) was the chief guest.

Prof. Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain, VC of EU chaired the session. The Director of Environment & Climate Change Department of PKSF Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed presented the keynote paper in the seminar.

In the seminar, the speakers stressed on climate finance especially on adaptation-based financing mechanism needed for LDCs and advised all to study and learn more about climate change impact as Bangladesh is one of the most climate vulnerable countries.

Liaquat Hossain Moghul, Chairman of the BOT of EU attended as the guest of honour. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar, delivered the welcome speech while Salman Haider, Director of Career Services & International Office drew the closing remarks.

 

UIU holds orientation for Spring 2019 semester

United International University (UIU) organised an orientation programme to welcome the newly admitted students of Spring 2019 held at its premises on January 19, 2018.

Students from School of Science and Engineering and School of Business and Economics took part in the orientation. Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Chairman of Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) was present as chief guest while Faridur Rahman Khan, Vice Chairman of BOT of

UIU was present as special guest.

VC of UIU and Program Chair Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahaman thanked the students for choosing UIU toward crafting their lives.

Highlighting the academic rules and regulations of the university, Prof. A S. M Salahuddin, Registrar of UIU assured of extending all essential cooperation to new students. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Hasnan Ahmed; Prof. Dr. Abul Hasnat; Md. Golam Azam, Dean of School of Business and Economics; Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Dean of School of Science and Engineering; and Heads of other departments were present.

 

NSU hosts iCSNBE 2019

The 1st International Conference on Sustainability in Built and Natural Environment (iCSNBE 2019) was held on January 21, organised by the Department of Environmental Science and Management, North South University (NSU) in association with Western Sydney University, Solar E. Technology, BUET, and Daffodil International University.

The inaugural ceremony started with words from Engineer Klaas Visser, Principal of KAV Consulting Pty Ltd., Australia. Dr. Nurul Quadir, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change was present as the special guest and Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Principal and Director, Solar E. Technology, Australia and Chair of iCSNBE; Prof. Dr. Jakariya, Co-Chair of iCSNBE 2019 and Dr. Mohammad Moshiur Rahman, Assistant Professor and Chair of ESM also expressed their gratitude towards GCSTMR and the participants. The chief guest was Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC of NSU and the Session Chair was Prof. Dr. Gias U. Ahsan, Pro-VC, NSU.

The Conference was attended by academics from countries like Japan, Sri Lanka, Australia, India, and Germany as well as from different districts within Bangladesh.

 

UAP organises "Passion to Action: Female Entrepreneurs' Fest"

The Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) hosted an exhibition titled "Passion to Action: Female Entrepreneurs' Fest" at UAP Plaza on January 21, 2019.

Pro-VC Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir inaugurated the daylong event as chief guest while Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW & Treasurer, UAP; Prof. Dr. Mohammed Tareque Aziz, Head, Dept. of Business Administration, UAP; Sisili Rahman, Shayla Binta Sayeed, and Ahmed Tausif Saad, Advisers, Entrepreneurship & Career Development Club, were present.

The exhibition hosted a group of female entrepreneurs who showcased their products and provided the students of UAP an opportunity to get to know the prospects and challenges of their startups. The exhibition included a wide range of products from spices, handmade soaps, crafts, to locally produced handloom sarees and dresses. The objective of these entrepreneurs is to develop a market for good quality local products and to rely less on imported goods.

 

IUBAT celebrates 28th founding anniversary

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) celebrated its 28th founding anniversary at its permanent campus in Uttara on January 16, 2019. IUBAT VC Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab; Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum; Treasurer Prof. Selina Nargis; Registrar Prof. M Lutfar Rahman; Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, College of Agricultural Sciences Dean Dr. Md Shohidullah Miah; College of Arts and Science Dean Prof. Dr. Abul Khair; distinguished professor Dr. Khwaja Muhammed Sultanul Aziz and other professors took part in the programme.

IUBAT declared a month-long programme including sports competitions, English spelling contest, blood donation drive, seminar, workshops, debate competition, cultural competition for celebration of IUBAT Foundation 2019.

IUBAT is the first non-government university established in Bangladesh. The initial planning began in 1989 and the university was established in 1991. Degree programs started in 1992 with agreement with Assumption University of Bangkok, Thailand. IUBAT authorities on the occasion pledged to pursue multiculturalism and prioritise English learning among the students. IUBAT also emphasised human resource development to engage students as a productive force for socio-economic development.
