IUB celebrates outstanding achievement of students

To celebrate outstanding achievements of the students, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised a grand reception, "Celebration of Success" on December 9, 2018 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The awardees were the members of IUB's Team Attendant who become first in Asia and sixth in the whole world in URC 2018; members of IUB Debating Club who become champions in United Asia Debating Championship 2018 held in Indonesia; and Shahriar Caesar Rahman, who received the prestigious Whitley Award for animal conservation at the Royal Geographic Society in London.

A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB; Abdul Hai Sarker, Chairman, Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT); Rashed Chowdhury, Former Chairman, BOT; Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB, and other members spoke on the occasion and distributed prizes among the achievers.

The grand celebration began with the welcome speech delivered by Prof. Milan Pagon. Deans of the Schools, Heads of the Departments and, members of the faculty and administration and students were present in the celebration.

 

British Council organises awarding ceremony of Book Reading Competition

Green University Language Center (GULC) organised the award giving ceremony of Book Reading Competition by British Council, Summer 2018 on December 3, 2018 at Green Auditorium. The programme was adorned by Sebastian Pearce, Director of Examinations of British Council in Bangladesh, as the chief guest. On behalf of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fayaaz Khan, Pro-VC, and Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, VC, were present as special guest and the chair of the programme respectively.

Along with them, Md. Shaidullah, Treasurer of GUB; Prof. Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Dean Green Business School, and chairpersons of different departments were also present.

 

AIUB holds finale of Hult Prize

Hult Prize is the world's largest business idea competition, organised by Hult Prize Foundation in partnership with former US President Bill Clinton and Clinton Global Initiative. The on-campus programme of this event ran at full pace at American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). It was organised by AIUB Business Club. Current AIUB students registered their team at hultprizeat.com/aiub till November 23, 2018. The sponsor of the event was Ahmed Food Products. Star Cineplex and Dhaka FM 90.4 were the entertainment and radio partner of this event respectively. The grand finale of this year's event took place on December 1, 2018 at the AIUB Permanent Campus.

 

IUBAT holds faculty development workshop

As part of the regular Faculty Development Program (FDP) of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), a daylong faculty orientation was organised for its faculty members on December 8, 2018 for the Spring 2019 semester at the permanent campus in Uttara. The orientation emphasised on teaching ethics, quality of education, teaching methods and methodology, administration and use of IT, and automation systems.

The speakers were VC Prof. Dr Abdur Rab; Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum; Treasurer and Head of FDP Prof. Selina Nargis; Registrar Prof. M Lutfar Rahman; Controller of Examinations Brig. Gen. Dr. Md Zahid Hossain (Retd.); Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Md. Dr. Monirul Islam, and other professors.

CUB hosts anniversary concert

Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) organised a concert on December 8, 2018 at the Institute of Engineers Hall. Top Bangladeshi bands Black, Powersurge, Owned, and Purple Haze performed in this event.

Within just two years, CUB has established itself as a globally-reputed university having students and teachers from all over the world. On the eve of its second anniversary, the university celebrated their success through this concert with more than 800 students. A short documentary about CUB was projected in the opening session. Before starting the event, all artists paid their respect to legendary musician Ayub Bachchu.

 

UIU observes International Volunteer Day 2018

International Volunteer Day was celebrated on December 5, 2018 at United International University (UIU) with various programmes. With the theme "Volunteers Build Resilient Communities", the programme was organised by UIU along with UNV Bangladesh and UNIC Dhaka.

Rally, discussion, as well as a friendly football and cricket match were organised to celebrate the day. Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, VC of UIU, was the chief guest while Md. Aslam, former Captain of Bangladesh National Football Team; Anupam Hossain, Executive Director, Activate Bangladesh Foundation & Sports Commentator of BTV; and Jamal Bhuyan, Captain of Bangladesh National Football Team were present as guests of honour.

A seminar was held at UIU Auditorium where Mia Seppo, UN Resident Coordinator; Muhammad Abdullah, Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports; Sultana Afroz, Additional Secretary of Economic Relation Division; Dr. Mohammad Monirujjaman, National Information Officer of UNIC; and Aktar Uddin, National Programme Analyst of UNV spoke on the occasion.

Nippon Paint launches Asia Young Designer Award 2018

Nippon Paint launched Asia Young Designer Award competition for the students of architecture and interior designing departments of different universities in Bangladesh. The idea was to nurture the future of architecture and interior designing sectors. The Gold Award winners were given BDT 50000 and the Silver Award winners were given BDT 25000, for each category. The Gold Award winners will fly to Singapore in March 2019 to represent Bangladesh.

In Singapore, the Asia Young Designer of the Year 2018/19 in the region will win an all-expense paid six-week placement in the Design Discovery program of Harvard University Graduate School of Design, following the establishment of the Gennosuke Obata Fellowship at Harvard by Nippon Paint. The Gold Award winner for Architecture category was Hamidah Ashrafi Fateha from BRAC University and from Interior Design was Asfia Islam from BUET. The best supporting school award was won by Sonargaon University for submitting the highest number of projects this year.

In the award ceremony Architect Khadem Ali, Prof. Qazi Azizul Mowla, Architect N. R. Khan and Architect AFM Mohiuddin Akhand were present as jury members. Gladys Goh, Group General Manager, and other high officials were present on behalf of Nippon Paint Bangladesh.
