IUB holds Annual Academic Award 2018 Ceremony

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) awarded its most talented students through a ceremony held on November 8, 2018, at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Prof. M Shamsher Ali, Former President, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences distributed prizes among the winners being the chief guest of the ceremony. Along with him, Rashed Chowdhury, Former Chairman, Board of Trustees; Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC , IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB; Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar, IUB also distributed prizes and spoke on the occasion.

Every year, students of the IUB are given scholarships and awards in the form of partial and total tuition waivers and other forms of financial benefits which also include award for purchasing books.

Prof. M. Shamsher Ali mentioned that only universities can change the thoughts of the society and mankind through research. He also advised awardees to never get complacent and fix the aim to be very high. Prof. Ali recommended to be humble persistently as the students go along with greater achievements.

Annual academic awards were given in two different categories among four different groups. Students in Vice Chancellor's honour list received BDT 10,000 each and students in Dean's honour list received BDT 5,000 each for their accomplishments. A total of 161 students from senior, junior, sophomore, and freshmen groups received the awards.

Deans and Heads of different Schools and Departments, members of the faculty and administration, parents and guardians and a full-house students were present in the ceremony.

 

 

Malaysia Education Lead Meet 2018 on November 16-17, 2018

Malaysia Education Lead Meet 2018, a yearly flagship event of Fast Track Education Services Ltd, is to be held on 3 PM of November 16-17, 2018. This event has been highly appraised by students and parents since its inception in 2015, especially because it enables them to learn about the campuses of some of the top ranked universities in Malaysia, and also some of the Malaysian international universities. They also learn about the student life and other facilities in Malaysia.

This year, the Malaysia campuses of Curtin University, Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology, The University of Nottingham, and INTI International University will be represented.

Each day the event will start with a seminar given by the representatives of the participating universities who will talk about their university, campus, programmes, ranking, scholarships, fees, accommodation and other relevant information. Following that the participants will be able to have a one-to-one meeting with the representatives. CLS of ULAB hosts "English for Specific Purposes"

Center for Language Studies (CLS) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), in collaboration with bdnews24.com, hosted an international conference on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) on November 9, 2018 in ULAB Auditorium at Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali MP, Foreign Minister, was present as chief guest. Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees, delivered a speech in the conference.

Mark Krzanowski, Director of the China-based Centre for Academic English Studies in the Surrey International Institute presented the keynote paper. The programme started with welcome speech by Prof. H M Jahirul Haque, VC, ULAB. Co-organiser Toufique Imroze Khalidi, Editor-in-chief, bdnews24.com also presented his speech. Conference Convener ATM Sajedul Huq, Director, CLS, ULAB also spoke in the conference.

Twenty-nine papers were presented at the conference on a variety of topics including the challenges and opportunities of ESP education in Bangladesh, the English needs of medical students, ESP in business English classes, English language skills in the fashion industry, English in journalism, needs analysis and ESP in the hotel and tourism industry, and employers' understanding of English language skills in Bangladesh.

ULAB Pro-VC Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, Treasurer Prof. Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, Registrar Prof. Akhtar Ahmed, faculty members, admin members, and students were present at the conference.

The University of Queensland awards DU students

The School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Queensland, Australia awarded nine students of the Institute of Education and Research, University of Dhaka (DU) on their completion of the SLATx Improving Writing through Corpora course on November 5, 2018, organised by Jurana Aziz, Assistant Professor, IER, DU and Project Coordinator of the programme in Bangladesh.

The award giving ceremony highlighted the need of improving writing skills at tertiary level students in Bangladesh to improve academic writing as well as focusing on empowerment in digital literacy. Prof. Syeda Tahmina Akhter, Director, IER, DU was the chief guest at the ceremony.

SEU arranges closing workshop of IQAC Project

Southeast University (SEU) Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organised a day-long Closing Workshop of IQAC Project on October 31, 2018 at SEU Seminar Hall, Main Building, Banani, Dhaka. Prof. Dr. A.N.M. Meshquat Uddin, VC of SEU presided over all the sessions.

Prof. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Accreditation Council inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head of Quality Assurance Unit, HEQEP-UGC graced the inaugural session as the special guest. M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Representative Member of BOT, SEU Trust also addressed in the workshop. Dr. M A Hakim, Director of IQAC of SEU gave the welcome speech and presented the achievements of IQAC Project. Heads of Self-Assessment Committee (SAC) of all academic departments of SEU presented their improvement plans in the second session.

Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, Quality Assurance Unit, HEQEP-UGC attended the closing session as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. AFM Mafizul Islam, Adviser to BOT and Head of BOT Office addressed in the ending session. Vote of thanks was given by Prof. Dr. M A Hakim, Director of IQAC of SEU. Among others, Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Pro-VC of SEU, Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed (Retd.), Registrar of SEU, Deans, Chairmen, Directors, faculty members and officials of various departments were present in the conference.
