EWU welcomes freshers in Fall semester

The orientation programmes of the newly admitted students for Fall semester 2018 were held in different academic departments of East West University (EWU) campus at Aftabnagar, Dhaka on September 13, 2018. Nearly 1000 students were admitted to graduate and undergraduate programmes in 13 different departments in this semester.

Each department of EWU arranged individual programmes for their newly admitted students. The objectives of the programmes were to welcome new students and introduce them to university facilities, faculty members, the academic system, and the rules and regulations of the institution.

Those programmes were attended by among others, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of Board of Trustees (BOT), EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank; H. N. Ashequr Rahman MP, Member, BOT, EWU and Chairman, Meghna Bank Ltd.; Prof. Dr. M.M. Shahidul Hassan, VC; Prof. Dr. Fakrul Alam, Pro-VC; and the Deans of the University.

 

 

IUB hosts Autumn 2018 semester's orientation programme

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) implemented its Autumn 2018 semester's orientation programme for newly admitted undergraduate students on September 15, 2018 at IUB's own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.

Welcoming the newly enrolled students and the parents, Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB inspired the students by saying, "Learn to enjoy whatever you do. Do new things to make a difference and be whatever you want to become. In this constantly changing world, instead of unpredictable targets, set periodic goals in life and try to achieve them without taking much stress."

Highlighting the academic rules and regulations of the University, Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar of IUB asked the students to follow them, and assured of extending all essential cooperation to the new students and their parents.

The event was conducted by Lima Choudhury, Deputy Director, Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Office of IUB.

Later, the newly enrolled students were oriented by the Registrar, and different Schools, Departments, Laboratories, Library and other Divisions of IUB. Subsequently, they visited all these Schools and Departments so as to acquiring the basic information about the university and its teaching methodologies. Apart from the students, parents, guardians, members of the faculty and management of IUB were present during the day-long orientation programme.

 

SEU appoints new Pro-Vice Chancellor

On the recommendation of the Board of Trustees of Southeast University (SEU), President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of Universities appointed Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Professor of the Department of Management, Chittagong University as Pro-VC of SEU for 4 (four) years.

Currently, he is one of the Directors of the Board of Directors of Life Insurance Corporation and Academic Adviser of National Defence College. Earlier, he was Chairman of the Department of Management of Chittagong University (CU), elected Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, CU, and Treasurer of Bangladesh Open University on deputation.

In his long career, he travelled to many countries such as USA, UK, Canada, France, Australia, The Philippines, and Korea on education and research purposes. He has published more than 65 research-based articles in national and international journals, presented 28 papers in international conferences and published eight books. He also served as Director, Consultant and Sub Project Manager in projects funded by various international organizations like World Bank, UGC, ILO, GOB, CoL, and UNDP.

 

 

EU to organise "Battle with English"

Eastern University (EU) is organising an English language competition titled "Battle with English" on September 27, 2018, at its Dhanmondi Campus. Department of English at EU has taken this initiative to help students use English in a fun way through contest.

HSC students (1st year/2nd year/2017-2018 pass) are eligible to participate in the event. Teams consisting of three students of the same college will compete in 3 rounds. Attractive prizes are there for the first 3 winning teams; first prize of BDT 21,000; second prize of BDT 15,000; and third prize of BDT 9,000 are up for grabs.

Registration is free and open online as well as at the Program Office of the Department till September 26, 2018, on first come first serve basis. To register, students should visit the website of EU at www.easternuni.edu.bd, click on "Battle with English", and fill in the form to send.

IUBAT arranges workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCE)

A day-long workshop on "Adaptation of Global Citizenship Education (GCE) in Bangladesh" was held on September 13, 2018 at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT). The workshop was jointly organised by Centre for Global Environmental Culture (CGEC) of IUBAT and The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Bangladesh.

The aim of the workshop is adaptation of GCE document translated by CGEC team of IUBAT in a project. Sun Lei, Education Specialist of UNESCO Dhaka was the special guest and Prof Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of IUBAT presided over the programme. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) experts in Bangladesh Dr. Nazrul Islam from BRAC; Zia-us-Sabur; Abdur Rouf of CAMPE; Shaharuzzaman from BNFE were present in the workshop as invited guests.

The workshop began with a welcoming address by Prof. Dr MA Rahman, Director CGEC and ESD of IUBAT. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. M.R. Dastagir, ESD Expert of IUBAT. Brig. Gen. Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain (Retd.), Pro-VC of IUBAT also delivered his speech in the workshop.

Sun Lei in her presentation elaborated the ESD and GCE programme of UNESCO. Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab congratulated the IUBAT team and UNESCO for successfully completing the project.
