Inauguration of STEM Project at NDC

To make science education sustainable which not only contributes to the economic development of the country but also enhances the social and environment responsibilities of students under the sponsorship from U.S. Department of State, Notre Dame College has taken a project titled "Sustainable Science Education using STEM Practice".

This project will introduce a new dimension of science education in Bangladesh where students will use technology to make their lesson more education friendly, teachers will develop digital contents, use digital technology, video, simulation to deliver their lecture in such a way that there will be a paradigm shift from the concept of lecture-based learning to student-centered learning. It will show how US education system can be implemented in Bangladeshi situation. Ambassador of U.S. to Bangladesh, Marcia Bernicat inaugurated the project at Notre Dame College on February 12, 2016 as the chief guest. Prof. Kaykobad of BUET, Prof. David Bureel, Professor Emeritus of Indiana State University, USA and George Mesthos, Cultural Affairs Officer, The American Centre Dhaka, Tahnia Shahid, Exchange Program Coordinator were present with more than 414 participating students, teachers and delegates from 68 educational institution from 9 different countries at the event.

NSU honours the Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket Team

On March 6, 2016, the fourth day of North South University's 9-day long programme celebrating 24 years of glory, a series of programmes were organised by the Athletics Club, Social Services Club, Earth Club, Department of English and Modern Languages, and Cine & Drama Club. In the morning, NSU welcomed the Under-19 Cricket Team of Bangladesh and Nazmul Hasan Papon, MP, and President, Bangladesh Cricket Board. M. A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT along with BOT Members M. A. Hashem, Benajir Ahmed, Rehana Rahman were present as special guests. Imdadul Haq Milon, Editor, Kaler Kantha, attended the programme and shared a few words. Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, chaired the session where Prof. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, NSU along with Deans, Chairs, Administrative Heads were also present. After the interactive session, the BOT Chairman and the members presented a crest to the chief guest and the under-19 cricket team.

Later, all guests visited the Blood Donation Drive organised by NSU Social Services Club in association with Quantum Foundation, and the exhibition "Encounters" by the NSU Earth Club. There was a public lecture held on "Digital Humanities", where Prof. Adeline Koh, University of Stockton, USA was a speaker. 

In the evening, a comedy drama "The Government Inspector" by NSU Cine & Drama Club, written by Nikolai Gogol was held in the Auditorium where renowned figures of national drama society were present.

 

IUB Marketing Carnival by Daraz
Daraz is organising "IUB Marketing Carnival" on March 9-10, 2016, at IUB Campus. It is an event providing a wide range of fun activities including game shows, magic shows, concert, while attendees get to explore the stalls in the event and shop for gadgets, phones, outfits etc. 

YouTube star of Bangladesh, Salman Muqtadir will be there to showcase his awesomeness. A magic show will be hosted by Galib along with fashion show, raffle draw and RJ Hunt by Radio Foorti.

The radio partner of the event is Radio Foorti and the WiFi partner is amber IT.

Public Lecture on "Remembering Commune-ism" at BRACU 

Under its Distinguished Scholar Series Programme, BRAC University organised a public lecture by Prof. Ania Loomba titled "Remembering Commune-ism" on March 3, 2016 at BRAC Centre Inn.

The speaker Prof. Ania Loomba is Catherine Bryson Chair in the English Department at the University of Pennsylvania, and currently Fellow at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Study, New Delhi. 

The talk "Remembering Commune-ism" recollected a 1942 event, when the Communist Party of India set up a commune in Bombay which was eventually inhabited by as many as a hundred and twenty people. Today, this commune has been all but entirely forgotten, as have the emotional and political alternatives it offered. Professor Loomba examined memories of the commune including those by the actress Shaukat Azmi, the photographer Sunil Janah, the "red lawyer" ASR Chari and others, as well as its inclusion in Yashpal's 1949 novel Manushya Ke Roop (the Forms of Humanity) in order to explore its engagements with the idea of family, coupledom, child-rearing, sexuality and community. 

 

BUFT holds seminar on RMG and textile sector 

BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) organised a seminar on ``Interaction between University & Industries – RMG and Textile Sector" followed by a signing ceremony of  MoU between BUFT, aamra Resources Ltd. and Lectra held on February 29, 2016 at Lakeshore Hotel, Dhaka.

Prof. Engr. Mashud Ahmed, VC of Bangladesh University of Textile (BUTex), David Hasanat, Chairman of Viyellatex Group and Engr. Md. Shamsuzzaman, MD, Micro Fibre Group and  President, ITET were present as special guests. The programme was chaired by Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, VC of BUFT. 

Muzaffar U. Siddique, founder Chairman, BOT, BUFT, distinguished guests from different garments and textiles industries, high officials from Embassy of Netherlands and NUFFIC attended the seminar and the MoU signing ceremony. 

The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-VC of BUFT. In his speech, Prof. Nabi highlighted the importance of the interaction and partnership between universities and industries. The collaboration approach is must for the sustainable development of RMG and textile industries of Bangladesh. 

As the lead discussants Md. Mohiuddin, CEO, Silver Line Group and Engr. Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, Executive Director, Esquire Group (Textile Division) emphasised on the need for creating effective linkage between academic institutes and industries. 

 

Closing ceremony of International MSME Conference at SEU

Closing ceremony of the two-day international conference titled "Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bangladesh: Sharing Asian Experiences", organised by Southeast University (SEU) in cooperation with Bangladesh Bank, BIBM, CIRDAP, InM and MSME related banks and financial institutions, was held on March 6, 2016 at the campus of SEU at Tejgaon. 

State Minister for Finance and Planning, M. A. Mannan, MP, was present at the programme as chief guest, while VC of SEU Prof. Anwar Hossain was the chair. Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury was present as the guest of honour. Deputy Managing Director of Sonali Bank Limited Dider Md. Abdur Rob and Acting President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Humayun Rashid were present as special guests. Conference Director and Professor of the Department of Economics, Dr. M. A. Hakim presented the outcome of the conference and future course of actions. Deputy Managing Director of Basic Bank Limited, Abdul Qayum Mohammad Kibriya delivered vote of thanks. International delegates, national experts, teachers, students and officials of different universities and high officials of different banks and financial institutions were present at the programme. 

A total of 20 papers were presented at the conference by a number of representatives from seven different countries. In this connection an MSME Fair was also organised at SEU premises, represented by 35 banks.
