NSU observes International Mother Language Day

North South University (NSU) observed the International Mother language Day with due solemnity and fervour on February 21. Chairman, BOT, VC (in charge), faculty members and administrative heads, staffs and representatives of 20 student clubs placed floral wreath at the Shaheed Minar at NSU to pay homage to language martyrs.

The university also hosted a discussion on the International Mother Language Day and arranged a cultural programme. M.A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT, NSU, was the chief guest where Benajir Ahmed, Member, BOT and Prof. Dr. Emdadul Haq were the special guests. Prof. Dr. Gour Govinda Goswami, VC (in charge) was in the chair of the discussion and Mustafa Chowdhury, Canada expatriate Bengali writer was the chief discussant.

A Bengali book named "Ekush Mane Gonotantrik Chetona" was unveiled at the programme. 

Annual Athletics Day held at CGSD

Annual Athletics of Chittagong Grammar School Dhaka was held at Gulshan Youth Club ground, Dhaka on February 18, 2016. School students participated in different categories of athletics and showed their skills. Guardians and teachers also took part in the competition. The director of the school, Farhat Khan, Head of Secondary School Khadija Afzal and guardians distributed the prizes among the winners at the end of the ceremony.

 

Scholars' School & College holds Annual Sports and Cultural Programme

The Annual Sports and Cultural Programme of Scholars' School & College was held on February 12, 2016 at Sultana Kamal Mohila Krira Complex, Dhaka. The chief guest was Md. Sirazul Islam, Secretary, Election Commission Secretariat, Dhaka. 

Special guests were Prof. Md. Abu Bakr Siddique, Chairman, Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Dhaka; Mir Shamsul Huda, Founder, Scholars' School & College; and Prof. K.M.H.S. Sirajul Haque, Cardiologist & Physician. 

Chairman Shanaz Huda, Principal Colonel Muhammad Ziauddin (retd.), Abul Kashem and all directors were present in this programme. Throughout the day, different sports according to the age of students were held. Teachers also participated in sports designated for them. After the lunch break, the chief guest arrived and cultural programme began. Dance, drama, poem recitation and different classical songs were presented by the students. Later, the prize giving ceremony commenced. At the end of the programme, a raffle draw was held for all the students and teachers.  

 

UIUPC organises Shutter Stories, Chapter - 01 

UIUPC organised "Shutter Stories, Chapter - 01", the first inter-university photography exhibition of United International University (UIU). The exhibition is running at Drik Gallery at Dhanmondi Rd 27. This is the first time UIUPC is holding an open themed inter-university photography exhibition. 

The exhibit was inaugurated on February 22. Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Pro-VC; Suman Ahmmed, Director of Student Affairs, and Moniruzzaman Sarker, Assistant Professor, UIU, inaugurated the exhibition.

The exhibit features 88 photographs, and 2 photo stories by 54 participants. The photographs have been selected by acclaimed photographers Mohammad Rakibul Hasan, Hasan Chandan and Syed Latif Hossain along with curator Fahad Al Alam from 1780 submissions. "Shutter Stories, Chapter - 01" concludes today at 8 pm in Drik Gallery. 

Shihabul Arefin of UIU won the "Best Photo Story" award. Pankaj Raj Dey of Beanibazar Govt. College won first prize in "Colour" category while Tariq Mahmud Naim of UIU bagged the top position in "Black and White" category.

 

Finwhizz'16 at IUB 

With the slogan "Leverage Your Efficiency", an intra-school financial competition branded as ''Finwhizz'16'' commenced at Independent University, Bangladesh on February 4, 2016.

Independent University Finance and Accounting Club in collaboration with Business Student's Society organised the event under the coordination of Fahad Noor and Saquib Shahriar, faculty members of the business school, IUB.

A total of 40 teams, each comprising of 3 students doing their bachelors with the concentration on finance participated in the day-long competition. These 120 participants were gladly received by an opening speech on why taking part in student competitions are important for assessment of one's own skills as well as getting a glimpse of real-life challenges by Anika Tabassum followed by a speech by Mesbaul Haque, two academic achievers and dedicated members of IUFC and BSS.

The competition was held in 3 rounds. Dr. Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Dean of IUB Business School was present to observe the final round where 6 teams who made it to the finals competed for the championship.

The prize giving ceremony of Finwhizz'16 was held on February 11. The Dean of IUB Business School presided over the ceremony and gave an enlightening speech to the participants. Other faculty members of the school were also present. Azharul Islam, Roshni Habibi and Kaynath Rahman of Team Zenith became the champions of IUB Finwhizz'16. They along with the runners-up Team Paramount were awarded and all the 6 finalist teams received certificates of appreciation.

 

EWU arranges international conference on English Studies

Under the auspices of the Department of English, East West University (EWU), the 4th International Conference was held in the university's permanent campus in Aftabnagar, February 19-20, 2016. The department chose the conference title "English Studies and the Marketplace." 

Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC graced the inauguration session as the chief guest. Prof. M M Shahidul Hassan, VC, EWU was present as the special guest. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT and founder VC, EWU presided over the session. Prof. Thomas Andrew Kirkpatrick, Department of Languages and Linguistics, Griffith University, Australia presented the keynote paper. Md. Manzur Alam, Chairperson, Department of English was also present at the occasion. 

The conference title created waves and attracted a lot of participants. It was a meeting place for erudite scholars, university teachers and young researchers from home and abroad including presenters from India, Sri Lanka, England and Australia. 

Near about one hundred notable faculty members, researchers and students of the English Studies arena participated in the conference. Member of the BOT of EWU, faculty members and students were also present in this gracious occasion.
