"Marvels 3" by BRAC University Marketing Association

BRAC University Marketing Association (BUMA) hosted an event, titled "Marvels 3" on October 17, 2015, at the campus auditorium. The event was powered by BRAC Business School Alumni Network. It was a roundtable interactive session with the current students and the alumni. Chowdhury Farah Jabeen, Senior Manager and AVP of BRAC Bank Limited; Amitav Debnath, Senior Manager, BRAC Bank Limited; and Mustafa Jainuddin, Manager of Shanta Securities, were all present as guest speakers and alumni at the event. Stawb Peter Halder, founder of BRAC University Alumni Network, also graced the session with his presence. Each speaker spoke about their own fields of expertise and gave vivid examples and explanations for the crowd. The event concluded with the closing speech by BUMA's President, Lamisa Manzoor and Vice President, Saeed Nahian. The Daily Star was the strategic partner of the event.


Jaago's initiative on Universal Children's Day 2015

JAAGO Foundation celebrates Universal Children's Day to promote international togetherness and awareness about children worldwide.

Education is every child's right. To address the need for education for every child, on the Universal Children's Day on November 19, JAAGO Foundation is going to paint the streets with yellow souls over half of Bangladesh. Across 8 divisions and 32 districts, thousands of volunteers will be spreading the belief of JAAGO, "Quality Education 4 All".

JAAGO Foundation started a revolutionary movement by celebrating "Universal Children's Day" for the underprivileged kids from 2009, delivering awareness every year. This is their 7th time in a row where volunteers from Volunteer for Bangladesh will be uniting for children's happiness. Volunteer for Bangladesh is the youth wing of JAAGO Foundation that works for the betterment of their individual communities and the nation as a whole.

Youth from across the nation are already registering for the upcoming Universal Children's Day 2015. The volunteer registration is going on at JAAGO Foundation, Rayerbazar School where the ambience tells the story like a storytelling book. The massive graffiti on the walls, little children on the playground, and the bird chirps altogether will strike anyone's mind with a message of awareness.

Jaago believes in building a society where every child will have access to quality education. Understanding the need for quality education, they are moving further by raising awareness. Everyone is welcome to join this yellow tide of youth can and create more smiles.The Daily Star has joined this noble initiative as strategic partner.

 

ULAB and ADD sign MoU 

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Action on Disability and Development (ADD) International Bangladesh was signed on October 12, 2015 at ULAB,. Prof. Imran Rahman, VC of ULAB and Shafiqul Islam, Country Director of ADD International Bangladesh signed the MoU on behalf of respective parties. 

Action on Disability and Development (ADD) Bangladesh, established in 1985 registered with UK Charity and with NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh, has been working in Bangladesh since 1986 "to achieve positive and lasting change in the lives of disabled people especially those living in poverty." The purpose of this partnership is to establish cooperation agreement between ULAB and ADD International Bangladesh for collaboration and mutual support for future continuation of two organisations' work on issues of disability and sustainable development. Both the organizations will find out a way to address issues of persons with disability, sustainable use of resources, and building capacity for diversified livelihoods. Both parties also agreed to exchange technical expertise on disability issue and sustainable development issue to each other. 

Among others, Juditha Ohlmacher, Prof. Hamidul Huq, Lt. Col. Foyzul Islam, Nasima Khandker of ULAB and Abdus Salam Miah of ADD were present at the ceremony.

 

NSU to host ACM-ICPC Asia Regional Dhaka Site Contest

North South University is hosting ACM- ICPC Asia Regional Dhaka Site Contest this year on 13-14 November 2015 for the 12th time on October 31, 2015. For Dhaka site contest 380 contestants, 150+ coaches and distinguished guests will visit NSU on the contest date. This ACM-ICPC contest provides a great opportunity for organizations to support local students to enhance their skills in solving programming problems. Till now, 450+ teams have already registered from more than 40 universities from all over the country including China, India, Malaysia, Nepal, and Bhutan to participate in preliminary contest.

ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is an annual multi-tiered competition among the universities of the world. Each year the winner of the Asia Regional Dhaka Site Contest advances to the ACM-ICPC World Finals that are held in various prominent cities in different continents across the world.

 

EU holds reception for GPA 5 recipients of HSC 2015

A reception programme for GPA 5 recipients of HSC 2015 organised by the Admission Office and Public Relations Office of Eastern University (EU) was held on October 20, 2015 at the EU premises. A.K.M. Mozammel Huq, MP, Minister of Liberation War Affairs, was present as the chief guest in the programme. Abul Khair Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, EU was present as the guest of honour. The programme was chaired by the VC of EU, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab while Shakir Amin Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director, Dhaka Bank Limited and Fariduddin Al Mahmud, Deputy Managing Director, IFIC Bank Limited were present as special guests. Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC of EU delivered the welcome speech.

 

Seminar on "Contemporary Ethical and Legal Challenges for Journalists" held at AIUB

The Department of Media and Mass Communication of American international University – Bangladesh (AIUB) organised a seminar on "Contemporary Ethical and Legal Challenges for Journalists" in the AIUB auditorium on October 12, 2015. The keynote speaker in the seminar was Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Editor-in-Chief, ATN Bangla and President, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ). Prof. Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Chairperson, Department of TV and Film Studies, Dhaka University (DU) and Adviser, Dept. of Media and Mass Communication, AIUB delivered the welcome speech. 

Bulbul shared his valuable experiences as an eminent journalist, CEO, consultant and trainer in large local media conglomerates at home and abroad for more than 30 years. He said that numerous television and radio channels, community radios and Internet portals have been set up in recent years and deregulation in this field may lead to concentration of media ownership, cross ownership and politicization of the broadcasting sector, which would be damaging to the development of independent media institutions representative of the multiplicity of ideas and opinions within Bangladesh society. 

Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Science, in his vote of thanks highlighted on the benefits of such seminars. Farhana Afroz, Head, Department of Media and Mass Communication was the master of ceremony of the programme.

 

DU celebrates Rag Day 2015

Batches of Tourism & Hospitality Management - EMBA, Dhaka University celebrated their Rag Day on September 11, 2015. The day began with the inauguration announcement from Dr. Mojib Uddin Ahamed, chairman of ETHM and Dr. Md. Nazmul Karim Chowdhury, director of ETHM along with the presence of Prof. Syed Rashidul Hasan and Ziaul Haque Hawlader. 

The event began with a colourful procession from the campus area. The procession ended at the Malraux Garden before the Faculty of Business Studies. The evening session took place at Platinum Suits, Banani, celebrating Gala Night. The students and their respected teachers shared the glittering moments among themselves.
