UAP organises seminar on "Brain Engineering: Future Opportunity and Feasibility"
Department of Computer Science and Engineering of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organised a seminar on "Brain Engineering: Future Opportunity and Feasibility" on July 8, 2018 at UAP Central Auditorium. VC of UAP, Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury was present as the chief guest and Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-VC, UAP was present as a special guest in this seminar. Md. Rashedul Islam, Additional Secretary (ICT Wing), ICT Division was also present in this seminar.
The seminar focused on highlighting the role of brain and technology to enable high impact research and its scope. In addition, it helped to identify the product and technology, clarify fund in helping to plan and implement the research outcomes. Also topics related to "Brain Engineering" i.e. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Brain computer interface and more were discussed. Speakers tried to develop interest among the audience about "Brain Engineering" job opportunities.
UIU faculty member receives Education Leadership Award
Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Director, Centre for Energy Research of United International University (UIU) has been honoured Education Leadership Award for his pioneering role and excellence in Education, Research, Leadership and Teaching in the field of renewable energy. The award was given to Chowdhury on the 7th World Education Congress at the Taj Lands End Hotel, Bandra, Mumbai, India on the July 5-6, 2018.
Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury has successfully established himself as a leading figure in the field of sustainable and renewable energy development in Bangladesh. He obtained his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from BUET in 1997. Later he completed his M.Sc. in Renewable Energy from University of Oldenburg, Germany.
As a faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of United International University (UIU), Chowdhury initiated an undergraduate course in renewable energy for the first time in Bangladesh. He is the founding director of the Centre for Energy Research at UIU. He has developed a solar photovoltaic applied research laboratory equipped with advanced facilities at his university by the grant support from the World Bank and IDCOL. He is the author of more than 45 book chapters, journals articles, and conference proceedings. He has so far trained around 1700 local technical professional on design, operation and maintenance of solar PV systems.
Prime Bank English Medium School students participate in excursions
"First hand sources of information enrich students' opportunities to learn about their community and what lies within, through engaging experiences such as field trips," said Helen Salmon, Principal, Prime Bank English Medium School.
At Prime Bank English Medium School in Uttara and Mirpur, students participate in excursions that broaden their knowledge about their learning in the classroom and allow the students to gather ideas and further information related to current topics. They inquire into and discover different perspectives and gain first hand information about what they are learning about in the classroom.
She also said, "The learning that we do beyond the four walls of the classroom not only impacts our students, allowing them to make meaningful connections and realisations but also has an impact on the location and people that we visit. Not only do students' learn from the destination and the opportunities it provides, field trips provide an opportunity to socially connect with each other, their teacher as well as the wider community."
Recently the students at Prime Bank English Medium School visited a variety of sites in and around Dhaka and beyond. From the Safari Park in Gazipur, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre, a natural environment called "Homes Garden", Science and Technology Museum in Agargaon, Lalbagh Fort and Sonargaon among others, the students have enjoyed the learning and connections made with each other. When these opportunities are provided for students, their lives are enriched.
GUB signs MoU with Binary University, Malaysia
Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Binary University, Malaysia on July 3, 2018. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fayyaz Khan, Pro-VC, Prof. Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Dean, Green Business School (GBS) of GUB) and Tan Sri Dato (Sir) Prof. Joseph Adaikalam, Executive Chairman, YBrs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asif Mahbub Karim, Dean, Binary Graduate School (BGS) of Binary University, Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, Chairperson, Green Business School, and Serajum Munira, Director of Green University Centers also attended the signing ceremony which took place at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka. This MoU will create an opportunity to provide pathway for Masters students from Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) to do "1+1" Binary University MBA and for MBA holders to earn dual MBA and to provide articulation arrangement whereby students who have completed the first 3 years of BBA at GUB are accepted into the final year of the bachelor degree at Binary University.
ULAB holds discussion on "Democracy and Elections: Importance of Voting among Youth"
Bill Moeller, Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs, US Embassy, Dhaka delivered a speech as the speaker at an interactive discussion on "Democracy and Elections: Importance of Voting among Youth" held on July 9, 2018. In cooperation with University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), the programme was organised by civic education organisation Change Makers with the support from The American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka. Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees, faculty members and about 200 students attended the programme.
"Marvel The Club Fair" ends at BRACU
A 3-day "Marvel The Club Fair" came to an end in BRAC University (BRACU) on July 3, 2018 with the screening of this year's superhero flick "Black Panther", a food fest comprising Lovello, Sbarro and Madchef, and performances by BRAC University Cultural Club.
Organised every semester by the Office of Co-curricular Activities, the club fair aims to inform freshmen of the university's 27 student-based organisations which they could join to cultivate leadership skills and teamwork. This time it was organised in association with BRAC University Film Club and sponsored by app-based transportation service provider MUV Asia.
Prof. Md Abdul Mottalib, Chairperson, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and a freedom fighter, inaugurated the event; homage to freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War was paid every day through observance of a moment of silence, lighting of candles and playing the National Anthem.
The fair's highlight was the screening of an interview-based documentary "Merciless Mayhem" of Fuad Chowdhury on the second day. The day also included a views-exchange session of students with filmmaker Animesh Aich and artist Joya Ahsan, whose birthday was also celebrated.
Students of different clubs engaged in drama, dance and musical performances along with guest band Mechanix throughout the event.
