BUBT inaugurates English Language Lab

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) inaugurated its first English Language Lab in the Department of English on June 30, 2018 to develop the English language proficiency among graduate and undergraduate students.

The Language Lab was inaugurated by Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT, in the presence of Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), UGC; Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Treasurer; Prof. Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Humanities; Prof. Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC, BUBT; Prof. A. B. Md. Badruddoza Mia, Controller of Examinations; Mohammad Shawkat Ali, Associate Professor & Chairman, Dept. of English, BUBT; and Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Director, Career Guidance, BUBT.

On the occasion, Department of English organised a workshop on "The Lesson Plan for BUBT Language Lab" at the International Conference Hall. In the programme, certificates among workshop attendees were distributed. A prize giving ceremony of English Club was also held.

IUB holds international symposium on environment conservation

The School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised a 2-day long International Symposium on environment conservation held from June 27-28, 2018 at IUB Campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The theme of the symposium was "Avoid plastic, stop pollution and conserve nature".

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) attended as chief guest. Shahriar Caesar Rahman, SESM alumnus and CEO, Creative Conservation Alliance was the special guest. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB, chaired the session.

Dr. John Herbohn, Professor and Director, Tropical Forests and People Research Center, University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, presented an online keynote speech on "The future and need of reforestation programs in tropical developing countries".

NSU Trust and North South Foundation elects new chairman

M. A. Hashem, a Founder Life Member of the North South University (NSU) Trust, has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the North South University Trust and the North South Foundation for Education and Research for the year of 2018-2019. He took charge on July 1, 2018.

A renowned industrialist of the country, Hashem is a former Member of Parliament of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad; Chairman of Partex Group; Advisor to the Janata Insurance Company Ltd.; Founder of Noakhali Diabetic Samity, and Founder President of Noakhali M. A. Hashem Degree College.

He had also served the NSU Foundation as its Chairman for the year 2003-2004 and 2012-2013.

EU arranges "Students' Thoughts & Debate on National Budget 2018-19"

"Students' Thoughts & Debate on National Budget 2018-19" organised by the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) & IQAC, Eastern University (EU) was held on June 26, 2017 at the Seminar Hall of the Eastern University.

Dr. Saadat Husain, Ex-Chairman, PSC and Ex-Cabinet Secretary, GOB was present as the chief guest of the discussion. Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BOT, EU was present as the guest of honour. Mohiuddin Ahmed, distinguished journalist and columnist, and Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil, Ex-Director, BPATC and NAEM were present as the special guests.

The seminar was chaired by the VC of EU, Prof. Dr. Engr. Aminul Hoque, while Muhammed Siddique Hossain, Treasurer, EU, and Prof. Dr. Raisul Awal Mahmood, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration were present as guests.

More than 200 students, teachers, and officials attended the programme. The discussion was highly appreciated by the audience and the guests alike.

AIUB signs MoU with Murdoch University, Australia

Prof. Dr. Taslima Monsoor, Advisor, Department of Law, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) behalf of Department of Law, AIUB with School of Law, Murdoch University. The MoU is expected to facilitate exchange programmes for both faculty members and students as well as academic and education cooperation between the institutions.

Dr. Monsoor also attended the 2018 Asia-Pacific Law School Leadership Forum hosted by Murdoch University on June 6-8, 2018 organised by the International Association of Law Schools (IALS).

This year's theme is "From Imitation to Innovation". The theme stems from the realisation of an overwhelming majority of members that legal education is at a crossroad. In the Annual General Meeting and Deans Forum, Dr. Monsoor represented AIUB.

DIU jointly organises "International Summer School of Human Rights"

A 5-day long "International Summer School of Human Rights" was jointly organised by Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW), Knowledge Steez, India and Daffodil International University (DIU) at Daffodil International University from July 1-5, 2018.

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU inaugurated the programme as chief guest. Presided over Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Firdaus Mian, Chief Adviser of Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW), the programme was also addressed by Prof. Dr. Yousuf M. Islam, VC, DIU; Niteesh Kumar Upadhyay, Assistant Professor, Galgotia University and founder of Knowledge Steez; and Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, DIU.

In this summer school, 11 participants and delegates came from India and Nepal and 30 participants attended from Bangladesh. They attended many workshops and seminars at this programme.

NUB organises training programme on research methodology

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) conducted a training programme on "Research Method: Questionnaire Design and Sampling Technique" on June 27, 2018. The event was jointly organised by NUB, IQAC, and HEQEP.

The keynote speaker and facilitator of the workshop was Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, Associate Professor, University of Malaysia Perlis. The chief guest of the programme was Prof. Dr. A.Y.M Abdullah, Chairman, NUB Trust and it was chaired by Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Haque, Director, IQAC of NUB. Prof. Dr. Anowar Hossain, VC, NUB attended as special guest.
