Dhaka Bank and IUBAT sign MoU for digitisation

Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, Dhaka Bank, and Prof. Dr Abdur Rab, VC, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) exchanged documents after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the organisations on December 18, 2017 at the conference room of IUBAT.  



According to the agreement, students and guardians can pay the university fees through Dhaka Bank from any point of the country. This is a new milestone of IUBAT's digitisation. 

Registrar, Chair of all departments, Coordinators, teachers and officials of Dhaka Bank were present at the signing ceremony. 

ULAB organises conference on global refugee crisis

The Department of English and Humanities, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held a 2-day conference titled "Refugees in the Public Imagination: Discourse on (Dis)location and (Dis)placement" on December 22-23, 2017. The session was inaugurated by the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof. Abdul Mannan who congratulated ULAB for hosting a conscientious and comprehensive panel and papers on such urgent and pressing issues. The welcoming speech was given by the VC of ULAB, Dr. Jahirul Haque. The Head of the Department of English and Humanities, Dr. Shamsad Mortuza expressed a vote of thanks.

The first day of the conference commenced with academic Dr. Anjali Gera Roy's keynote speech titled "Migration, Mobility, Immobility". Dr. Roy is a Professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. Her paper was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the BOT at ULAB. 

The second and final day of the conference began with Dr. Debjani Sengupta presenting her keynote paper titled "An Enclave's Marginal Lives: Selina Hossain's Bhumi O Kusum (2010)". Dr. Sengupta is an Associate Professor with the Department of English at Indraprastha College, University of Delhi.       

The plenary session of the last day was conducted by eminent scholar and political analyst, Dr. Salimullah Khan, Professor of the Department of General Education at ULAB, titled "One and Only Figure of the Refugee." The academic conference concluded with an in-depth and comprehensive panel discussion on the Rohingyas.  Dean of Humanities at ULAB, Prof. Dr. Kaiser Haq gave the closing speech. 

 

Grameenphone high officials visit AIUB for technical seminar

Recently a seminar on "Basics of Mobile Communication Network" was organiSed by AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) at the Library of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). The seminar was propounded by Grameenphone Ltd.

Welcoming the guests and participants, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, inaugurated the event and gave a valuable speech on communication and modern technology. Syed Ziaul Islam, General Manager, Head of Radio & Transmission Network Operation, Service Operation Technology, Grameenphone introduced Grameenphone's history and vision. Afterwards, Dipen Sarkar, Deputy General Manager, Head of Integration & Configuration, Service Operations Technology, Grameenphone discussed the working process, cell concept, GSM policy and many other systems briefly.

Then, Syed Jamil Hussain, Deputy General Manager & Head of Radio Network Operation, Service Operations Technology, Grameenphone talked about voice controlling operation, radio technology evolution, UMTS, LTE, air conditioning system and use of renewable energy in different operations of Grameenphone Ltd.

Adnan Momin, General Manager & Head of OSS Operations, Service Operations Technology, Grameenphone was then invited and he shared his valuable knowledge on GSM telecom architecture, operation support system and monitory policy. Next was Mohammad Shah Alam Bhuiyan, General Manager & Head of Complaint Management, Service Operations Technology, Grameenphone who continued the discussion on the digital journey of Telenor, attractive customer service and vision 2020. 

 

BRACU reaches finals of competition on tackling extremism in social media

A team of BRAC University (BRACU) students has been selected from over 350 teams from over 65 countries to travel to Washington, D.C. to compete with three other finalists on their ideas on tackling extremism and hate crime on social media in the special global university competition, "EdVenture Partners Peer2Peer: Facebook Global Digital Challenge".

Fatimah Akhtar and Zareef Tajwar Karim of Department of Economics and Social Sciences (ESS) teamed up with peers Adeepto Intisar Ahmed of ESS, Quazi Navila Zaman of BBA and Rojin Ammar of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering to launch a social campaign titled Get Up Speak Up (https://www.facebook.com/getupspeakup). 

The campaign will be representing BRACU, Bangladesh and Asia before a jury of academics, policymakers and other key players at the finals in Washington on January 30, 2018 while vying for a USD 10,000 prize.

The other teams are from Design Akademie Berlin (Germany), the Federal University of Pernumbuco (Brazil) and the Haigazian University (Lebanon).

The project's academic mentors were Prof. Firdous Azim of the Department of English and Humanities and Dr. Samia Huq of ESS. Overall technical supervision was provided by Hamim Al Ahsan of Professional Development Centre.

Get Up Speak Up created an innovative and dynamic platform focusing on shrinking online spaces and opening up channels for interfaith dialogue. It was the first attempt at creating a safe space on Facebook.

 

SEU holds blood donation programme

The Social Welfare Club of Southeast University (SWCSEU), in association with Bangladesh Police Blood Bank, organised a "Blood Donation Programme" on the occasion of Victory Day on December 18, 2017 at the main building in Banani, Dhaka. 

Mohd. Ashrafuzzaman BPM, Deputy Police Commissioner, Bangladesh Metropolitan Police, delivered his valuable speech as chief guest while Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), Registrar of SEU, presided over the ceremony. Md. Ohiduzzaman PPM, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner delivered his speech as guest of honour. Md. Rafiqul Islam PPM, Senior Assistant Police Commissioner, Gulshan Zone, DMP delivered the welcome speech. Faculty members, officers, members of Social Welfare Club and students of SEU attended the programme.

A good number of students, faculty members, officers donated their blood at the programme.
