UIU organises 1st Inter-University 

Undergraduate Research Symposium 

School of Business and Economics at United International University organised the first ever nationwide Inter-University Undergraduate Research Symposium. The award giving ceremony was held in the main campus of UIU. 

Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Distinguished Fellow, Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) was present as the chief guest. A.S.M. Mainuddin Monem, Managing Director & CEO, Abdul Monem Economic Zone Limited (AMEZL) and Mohammed Nurul Amin, Managing Director & CEO, Meghna Bank Limited were present as special guests. 

A total of 167 undergraduate students from 31 public and private universities of the country participated in 5 different tracks – Accounting & AIS, Economics, Finance & Banking, Management & HRM and Marketing of the symposium. Top 12 participants from each track were invited to present their research papers. All participants received certificate and gift pack. In each track, the best research paper won the prize of BDT 50,000 followed by BDT 30,000 for the first runner-up and BDT 20,000 for the second runner-up.  

It was announced that the 2nd Inter-University Undergraduate Research Symposium will take place between September and November of 2018.

 

CUB holds orientation for Fall 2017 freshmen

A day-long orientation programme for the freshers of graduate and undergraduate programmes under the Fall semester 2017 was held at Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) recently. 

Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC graced the programme as chief guest. Prof. William H. Derrenger, VC (Designate), CUB, delivered welcome speech while Prof. MA Arafat, Chief Advisor to the BOT presided over the programme. The program ended with a colourful cultural performance by the students.  

Special guest Professor Emeritus Dr. Atiur Rahman, Virtual Dean, School of Business and Honorary Adviser, CUB emphasised on applied knowledge for the students. Brig. Gen. Md. Asaduzzaman Subhani (Retd.), Registrar, CUB was also present in the programme.

Among others, S. M. Arifuzzaman, Head, School of Business; Hanif Mahtab, Associate Professor of Business School, Proctor & Head of Career Service Wing; Md. Latiful Khabir, Associate Professor of Business School, Head of Student Service Wing & Students' Directorate; Dr. Abdullah-Al-Monzur Hussain, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, School of Law; Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Film & TV; Zohara Nazneen, Deputy Registrar of CUB, and other officials, students and guardians were also present.

DIU Chairman presents paper on entrepreneurship at AUAP

Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, Daffodil International University joined as an elected Director of the Executive Council at the 32nd Annual Conference of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) on November 7-10, 2017 in Xi'an International University, Xi'an City, China.

Khan presented in the plenary session of the conference on November 8 in front of 300 participants from 64 universities; his paper titled "Incorporating Entrepreneurship in Education" on the theme "New Initiatives to Promote Entrepreneurship and Innovative Thinking in Higher Education Institutions" drew the attention of the dignitaries. He spoke on the need, importance, evaluation, challenges, culture and scope of entrepreneurship; comparative study; co-relation between entrepreneurship and education; innovation and its future trend; counseling, guiding and consulting needed from universities for students in way of entrepreneurship; need of technology; global exchange; DIU initiatives in entrepreneurial education; DIU Industry Academia Lecture Series on Entrepreneurship Development; Innovation and Industry Academia Collaboration; DIU Publications on Entrepreneurship; DIU's Department of Entrepreneurship as a pioneer in Bangladesh; curriculum development; social entrepreneurship; global exchange; practical involvement of students; and Employability 360 degree during his presentation.

The AUAP Secretariat in cooperation with Zhengzhou University, China declared the availability of 50 scholarships that DIU students were also encouraged to apply. There will be many more opportunities in coming days for DIU students through AUAP.
