ULAB hosts Career Fair 2017 

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised "ULAB Career Fair 2017" on October 28, 2017. About 30 organisations participated in this fair where events like career development seminars, workshops, CV collection and spot interviews took place.

The fair was inaugurated by chief guest Rupali Chowdhury, Managing Director at Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. in the ULAB Auditorium. Md. Musharrof Hossain, President of BSHRM & Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resources Management was present as special guest.

Prof. HM Jahirul Haque gave the inaugural speech and welcomed everyone. Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees, delivered the vote of thanks. 

ULAB Registrar Prof. Akhtar Ahmed, Director of ULAB Career Services Office Abu Hena Md. Rasel and other senior authorities of ULAB, representatives from different organisations, faculty members, administrative staff and students also attended the fair.


NSU and IAEE organise South Asia Energy Summit 2017

On October 17, 2017, the South Asia IAEE-NSU Energy Summit 2017 was held at the North South University (NSU) campus, jointly organised by the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE) and NSU. The daylong summit included panel discussions and plenary sessions followed by a closing ceremony.  

The speakers of the summit were leading officials from the government sector, IAEE, World Bank, United Nations, USAID, private sector, eminent academicians and civil society leaders. The President of IAEE, Dr. Ricardo Raineri Bernain, who is also an ex-minister of Energy in Chile, was one of the organisers of the event.

The closing ceremony featured speeches from the chief guest, the special guests and the guests of honour as well as the organisers. The chief guest for the event was the State Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Department, Nasrul Hamid MP. The special guests for the event included Dr. Ricardo Raineri, President of IAEE, Professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; Dr. Gürkan Kumbaroglu, Past President of IAEE, Professor at Bogazici University; Faisal Karim Khan, Additional Managing Director, Summit Corporation; and Prof. Dr. Gias Uddin Ahsan, Pro-VC, NSU. The guests of honour were Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, Secretary, Power Division, and Benajir Ahmed, Member, BOT, NSU. The summit concluded by a vote of thanks from convener, Dr. Sakib Bin Amin. 


IUB holds information session on Toastmasters

An information session on Toastmasters International was held at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on October 24, 2017 at its own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The session was organised by Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) Office of IUB.

Toastmasters International is a worldwide non-profit educational organisation that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Toastmasters International generates confidence among future professionals and also enhances people's public speaking abilities. 

The session was conducted by Muhammad Habibul Islam, Area Director, District 41 of Toastmasters International. Six advanced members of North South University Toastmasters (NSU Toastmasters) had also participated in a short demonstration.

The programme started with welcome address given by Md. Abdullah Iqbal, Deputy Director, Career Guidance and Placement Office of IUB. 


YES Group launches at UAP

The Directorate of Students' Welfare of University of Asia Pacific (UAP), in association with Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), organised a launching ceremony of Youth Engagement Support (YES) Group at UAP on October 25, 2017 at VC's Conference Room.

Air Cadre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, Directorate of Students' Welfare (DSW) started the ceremony with a short introduction of DSW, and Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director, TIB discussed the role of YES group to promote good governance in Bangladesh.

Among others, the programme was attended by Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC; Prof. Dr. MR Kabir, Pro-VC, members of YES Group, UAP and Rezwan-Ul-Alam, Director, Outreach & Communication, TIB. 


Volunteer platform "Shwapna Niya" launches

"Shwapna Niya", a platform for volunteers to stand beside the underprivileged people of the country has officially started its journey on October 13, 2017 at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Dhaka. The logo was unveiled by Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayeed. Prof. Mohammad Ali Naqi,, VC, Stamford University, and media personality Abdun Noor Tushar were also present. The main initiators of Shwapna Niya, AFM Faisal, Mir Tanvir, Arafat Hossain, Ashraful Alam Hannan, Abdur Rashid, Parvez Anik and Anwar Patwari were present as well.


AIUB VC attends IAU board meeting 

The VC of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), as a Member of the Administrative Board of the International Association of Universities (IAU), attended the board meeting held in Hotel Fiesta Royale, Accra, Ghana on October 16-17, 2017.

Dr. Lamagna also participated in IAU General Meeting of Associations and Conference on Leadership for a Changing Public-Private Higher Education Landscape: Implications for a Higher Education Associations on October 18, 2017. The GMA seeks to provide a forum for examining the answers and additional questions from the perspective of membership associations and university networks. The conference focused on the role, responsibilities, expectations and needs of higher education leaders in this new and shifting landscape when faced with the changing nature of higher education that comes with a more blurred notion of public and private.

The VC chaired a plenary session on Higher Education and Research: Ethical Challenges for a Transforming World.


Marketing Samurai 2017 at UIU comes to a close

The most awaited and the biggest inter-university marketing competition "Marketing Samurai 2017" finally came to a close on October 23, 2017 at UIU Auditorium.

VC of UIU Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan inaugurated the programme, where Head of Marketing of Akij Food and Beverage Limited (AFBL) Hindol Roy; Marketing Director of Gremeenphone Solaiman Alam; FVP and Head of Communication & Branding Division of Dhaka Bank Limited Khandaker Anwar Ehtesham, were present as special guests.

The competition was organised by UIU Business Club. It was based on 3 criteria: marketing plan, product presentation, and utmost business profit. A total of 60 teams from 25 different public and private universities participated.

Team from IBA, DU "Recognize" was crowned the Champion; "Hashtag" from IBA, DU was the 1st Runner-up and NSU from team "Clean State" was the 2nd Runner-up. They won BDT 1 lac, BDT 70,000 and BDT 50,000 as prize money respectively. SPEED was the title sponsor and Dhaka Bank Limited was the prize money sponsor of the competition.
