IUB distributes relief among Rohingyas

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) distributed relief among devastated Rohingyas at the Ghundum Camp, Ramu, Ukhiya where the Pro-VC, Prof. Milan Pagon led the university team and Registrar, Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Anwarul Islam coordinated the project activity.

As part of IUB's philanthropic and benevolent endeavours, the university distributed 1200 bags of aid that contained rice, lentils, salt, potato and milk powder. The team also distributed essential medicine worth BDT 2 lacs, 200 pieces of bed sheet, and constructed10 water pumps and 20 slab latrines. Twenty-three tons of food relief amounting to BDT 25 lacs was allocated by the Trustees of the university to carry out this humanitarian activity. So far, IUB is the only university to perform this endeavour.

Administrative officials of the university and members of IUB's Social Welfare Club took part in distributing aids among the deprived Rohingyas. Bangladesh Army extended all sorts of cooperation to IUB team in designing and accomplishing the project. 


IBA DU wins ABP Debating Championship 2017

A well-drilled and talented team from IBA, University of Dhaka comprising of Rawnak Zaheen Wasi and Sajid Khandaker have been crowned champions of the Asian British Parliamentary Debating Championship in 2017 – the first team from Bangladesh to achieve this feat.

This year, the tournament took place in Krabi, Thailand from October 1-6, 2017. Around 100 teams from 44 different universities and nine different countries participated in this prestigious event. ABP Debating Championship is the most significant debating tournament in Asia and is one of the most sought after events among the Asian student base.

After six preliminary rounds of debate, top 24 teams qualified for the knockouts. This year, alongside the champion team, another team from Bangladesh consisting of Asif Mehedi and Miraz Murshed Rahman from North South University, qualified for the knockouts and were also the semi-finalists. The top four teams that were in the grand finale were from IBA, University of Dhaka (Bangladesh), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), International Islamic University (Malaysia) and Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines). 

Having tackled topics ranging from gender, race, religion, and sports – in the grand finale the dynamic duo faced their illustrious competitors in a topic regarding language and emerged as champions. Rawnak Zaheen Wasi was announced as Overall Best Speaker of the Final as the duo proudly hoisted the trophy aloft along with the flag of Bangladesh.


On October 13-14, 2017 Maple Leaf International School (MLIS) organised “Annual Science Fair 2017”. The fair featured a total of 441 projects prepared by 963 students from Classes I to IX. The main aim of the event was to promote the interest of the students in innovative science projects, channel their curiosity in technology and tap into their creativity. To encourage the young scientists, Dr. Md. Zahidur Rahman Majumder, Ex-CSO & Director, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission graced the occasion as special guest. The chief guest at the event was founding Principal Mrs. Zeba Ali.

 

IDLC launches Khushir Kheya - a CSR platform

IDLC, the largest non-banking financial institution in the country has been active in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, enabling skill development, creating awareness towards pressing social issues and working towards financial inclusion. It has launched the platform "Khushir Kheya", which is a project that aims to bring together volunteers, stakeholders, employees and various partners to tackle social problems. 

On its launch this October, the company will take various initiatives to help improve underprivileged communities all across Bangladesh in fields of health, education, nutrition and livelihood, and work to preserve the environment. To encourage the young generation to take part in improving their communities, IDLC will engage youth volunteerism in all of the events.

Arif Khan, CEO & MD of IDLC, commented, "As a corporate entity, we feel like it is our mandatory responsibility to improve the communities we operate in. Through Khushir Kheya, we want to ensure sustainability while encouraging involvement among people from all walks of life to help those in need."

BRAC JPG School of Public Health invites interested students for MPH programme

James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University (BRAC JPGSPH) is going to organise an interactive student event on October 21, 2017. The event invites individuals interested in building a career in public health and considering an MPH degree. It will bring out the prospects, values and importance of getting an MPH through interactive discovery sessions and public health solution games.  

The competency-based curriculum of BRAC JPGSPH develops well-rounded, multi-skilled professionals who can readily apprehend the evolving inter-dimensional nature of public health to succeed in diverse and complex health environments both locally and globally. Individuals of all academic backgrounds are invited to join the event on October 21 from 11 AM – 1 PM (first session) and 1.30 PM – 3 PM 

(second session).

SEU holds orientation of MBA programme

The orientation programme of  MBA (Evening) of Fall Semester 2017 of  Southeast University (SEU) was held on October 11, 2017 at University Seminar Hall, Main Campus, Banani, Dhaka. 

Registrar of SEU Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.) welcomed the new students; VC Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin chaired the session. Prof. Dr. Hafiz G.A. Siddiqi, former VC, North South University was the chief guest. M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Representative Trustee of SEU Trust was the guest of honour.
