UAP hosts Civil Engineering Festival

A day-long Civil Engineering Festival for Spring 2017 was held at the plaza of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on July 22, 2017.

Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC, UAP addressed the programme as the chief guest and distributed the prizes among the winners. Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT); Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer; and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Head, CE also addressed the function, among others.

The programme began with a seminar on "Role of Civil Engineering on Sustainable Development in Bangladesh" conducted by Dr. M. A. Matin, General Secretary, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon. The event also included club projects and exhibition, civil fest stalls, film show, debate and cultural competitions. It was attended by a number of faculty members and students of the department.


Information Advisor to PM visits AUB permanent campus

Information Advisor to the Prime Minister and Editor of The Daily Observer, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhuri visited the permanent campus of Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB) on July 19, 2017. Managing Editor of The Daily Observer and former DG of Rotary International (District 3281), SAM Showket Hossain was also present.

The founder and VC of AUB, Prof. Dr. Abul Hasan M. Sadeq welcomed the guests. Chowdhuri expressed his high appreciation of the campus surrounded by greenery. He advised the AUB VC on various aspects including the beauty of the campus and the convenience of the students, and assured any kind of support for the development of the university.

AUB Registrar Dr. Md. Shah Alam, and Exam Controller K. M. Monirul Islam were also present.


WUB holds seminar on higher education quality

World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organised a seminar titled "Exchange of Views with Educationists on Quality in Higher Education" on July 21, 2017 at WUB Auditorium. The seminar was presided over by VC Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, where Md. Sohorab Hossain, Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education was present as the chief guest. Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer, read out the concept paper. The participants including university professors, principals, vice principals, and heads of departments of about 50 colleges of Dhaka. Prof. Dr. M Nurul Islam, Pro-VC; Prof. Dr. Musfiq M. Choudhury, Chief Advisor; Deans; Advisors; Heads of departments and senior executives of WUB were also present.

The participants suggested specific means, methods and strategies for quality education and attracting students, especially in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Master of Business Education, Tourism and Hospitality Management and Architecture.

The chief guest Md. Sohorab Hossain said that if the Private University Act, 2010 is followed properly then the quality of education can be ensured. He also advised to be ready to face the challenges of the newly passed Accreditation Council Act.


CUB and MDIS sign MoU in Singapore

Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS). This MoU was signed at MDIS's campus in Singapore recently. Dr. Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, founder and Chairman, CUB, and Dr. R Theyvendran, Secretary General, MDIS Governing Council, signed the MoU on behalf of the respective institutions.

As a result of this academic exchange and cooperation, students of CUB can transfer their credits for higher studies in Singapore. In addition, CUB will bring experienced faculty members from MDIS. Anjuman Ara Shahid, Vice Chairman; Chowdhury Raheeb Safwan Sarafat, Member of BOT, CUB; and high officials of MDIS were present at the MoU signing ceremony.


BRACU holds Adventure Tourism Fair

A 2-day "Adventure Tourism Fair" organised by BRAC University Adventure Club (BUAC) to promote Bangladesh's tourism sector ended at BRAC University's (BRACU) Mohakhali campus on July 18, 2017.

BRACU Pro-VC Dr. Ansar Ahmed inaugurated the fair while Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir and Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) President Taufiq Uddin Ahmed were present as guests.

The guests discussed the prospects and challenges in this sector in comparison to neighbouring Asian countries. They emphasised that Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing markets for international and domestic tourists.

Many renowned tourism companies along with Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and TOAB participated in the fair, offering tour packages and encouraging people to satiate their wanderlust.

The fair also included a food fest at "Prangon" in BRACU campus and ended with a cultural programme where musical band Ashes performed. Shohoz.com was the travel and tourism partner of the event.  


bKash organises career grooming session at IUB

A career grooming session titled "Think Ahead" was held at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on July 19, 2017 in Bashundhara. The session was jointly organised by bKash and Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) Office of IUB. The keynote speaker of the session was Sayeed Nasir, General Manager, Organizational Development, bKash.

In his deliberation, Nasir put emphasis on being acquainted with the current trends of technology since human job positions are gradually being replaced by it. He also added that students must focus on balancing the CGPA and extracurricular activities as the employers look for both attributes in a competent employee. Later, the speech was followed by a Q&A session participated by students.

The programme began with a short introduction of the speaker delivered by Md. Abdullah Iqbal, Deputy Director, CGP, IUB.


IQAC at EU holds workshop on governance and management

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Eastern University (EU) organised a day-long workshop on "Good Governance, Administration and Financial Management" on July 22, 2017 at EU Seminar Hall. Prof. Dr. M Muhibur Rahman, former Member of HEQEP was present as the keynote speaker while Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BOT of EU; Abul Quasem Haider, founder Chairman, BOT of EU; Md. Azizul Islam, former Chairman, BOT of EU; Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC, EU; Muhammed Siddique Hossain, Treasurer, EU; Abul Basher Khan, Registrar, EU were present.

The objective of the workshop was to discuss and review the above mentioned areas for improvement. A total of 20 participants attended the workshop. The workshop came to a conclusion with a vote of thanks from Fakir Tajul Islam, Additional Director of IQAC of EU.


DIU and USIM agree to establish entrepreneurship development platform

Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil International University & Daffodil Family visited the "Hands On Program for Entrepreneurship (HOPE)" - an entrepreneurial wing setup under Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) during his visit July 20, 2017. Both universities agreed to work together under this platform on entrepreneurship development.

Khan delivered a presentation on DIU mentioning opportunities for development of entrepreneurship between DIU and USIM. The decision of the meeting was to initiate joint work on blended learning, summer programmes, Al Qur'an Research Center, translating and publishing "A Journey Towards Entrepreneurship" (written by Md. Sabur Khan) in Malay language and exchange of faculty members and students.
