IUB secures first position in URC 2017 among Bangladeshi universities 

The University Rover Challenge (URC) is the world's premier robotics competition held annually in Utah, USA. URC challenges student teams to design and build the next generation of Mars rovers that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the Red Planet.

A record 82 teams from 13 countries took part in URC2017. Following a rigorous two-stage down-select process, 36 teams were invited to the field competition at MDRS. 35 teams from seven countries arrived with their rovers ready for the exciting challenges in the Utah desert, USA. Subsequently, the team of the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), "Team Attendant" secured the first position among all Bangladeshi participating universities and became second in whole Asia, and tenth globally. More than 1000 students were involved in URC projects at their local universities during the 2016-17 academic year.

After three days of intense competition, the Mars Rover Design Team (MRDT) from the Missouri University of Science and Technology won the University Rover Challenge (URC). 

CzÄ™stochowa University of Technology, Poland, won the second place while Brigham Young University, USA, earned the third position. 

 

Seminar on "Duties in Ramadan" at DIU

A seminar organised by the students of CSE-38 Batch of Daffodil International University (DIU) on "Duties in Ramadan" was held on June 6, 2017 at Auditorium-71 of the university. Dr. Manzur-E-Elahi, Associate Professor, Department of Islamic Studies, National University, was present as chief guest and keynote speaker. Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC, DIU presided over the seminar.

Dr. Manzur-E-Elahi said that the holy month of Ramadan comes to us every year with messages and gifts. If we utilise these properly, we may become complete or proper human beings.

 

IUBAT organises freshmen orientation of Summer 2017

The orientation for freshmen of Summer 2017 of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was held on June 8, 2017 at its permanent campus in Uttara. Freshmen of BAEcon, BATHM, BSN, BSAg, BCSE, BSCE, BSEEE, BSME, BBA and MBA programmes were welcomed. 

Zubier Alim, Chairman, BOG, IUBAT, was present as the chief guest and Prof. Selina Nargis, Pro-VC, IUBAT presided over the orientation. Speakers on the occasion highlighted the excellence of IUBAT, and added that the focal point of modern higher education in contemporary world is mostly demand based. Prof. Nargis stated that IUBAT fulfills the need of massive manpower development to ensure quality in higher education for facilitating the socio-economic growth and development.

The programme was followed by iftar mahfil with prayers for of the departed soul of the founder and former VC Prof. Dr. M Alimullah Miyan and former Pro-VC and Board Member Prof. Mahmuda Khanum.   

 

Workshop on improving service delivery at NUB 

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB), in collaboration with the World Bank and the University Grants Commission (UGC), arranged a workshop on "Designing Course Profile and Assessment Criteria and Orientation of New Faculty Members". 

Prof. Dr. A.Y.M. Abdullah, Chairman, Northern University Bangladesh Trust, was present as the chief guest. Quality assurance expert and Director, IQAC of NUB, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Haque coordinated the session. VC (Acting) of NUB, Prof. Dr. Anwarul Karim, Treasurer Md. Anwar Hussain and Registrar Md. Rashidul Islam, were present as special guests at the occasion. Faculty members of NUB participated in the training session moderated by Md. Lutfor Rahman, Additional Director, IQAC, NUB. 

The chief guest referred to the faculty members as "teacherpreneurs" and urged them to embrace career-long learning and to focus on scholastic pursuit of knowledge. He stressed on the importance of conducting high-quality research, learning the latest statistical tools and gaining expertise in software for achieving professional excellence. 

 

EU holds orientation programme for Summer 2017 

The orientation ceremony for the students of undergraduate programmes of the summer semester of Eastern University (EU) was held on July 7, 2017 in the University Seminar Hall. Md. Azizul Islam, Chairman, BOT of EU & Chairman, Alif Group graced the occasion as the chief guest. Masrur Arefin, Additional Managing Director & Chief Communications Officer, City Bank Limited was present as the guest of honour while Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of EU presided over the programme. Among others, Abul Khair Chowdhury, former Chairman, BOT; Engr. Khandaker Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, and Md. Ali Azzam, Members, BOT; Abul Basher Khan, Registrar; Deans; Advisors; Chairpersons; members of EU Alumni; teachers and officials were also present.

The chief guest congratulated the newly admitted students and shared their success stories in the education and corporate sector. The guest of honour urged the students to be honest as well as become skilled professionals. In his speech the VC of EU thanked the students, parents and guardians for putting their faith and trust in EU authority.

 

Dept. of Civil Engineering at WUB holds iftar mahfil 

Department of Civil Engineering, World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organised an iftar mahfil on June 10, 2017 at the auditorium of the main campus of WUB. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Prof. A K M Ziaul Islam, Controller of Examinations along with Proctor, Dean, Heads of departments, faculty members and students were present in this programme.


Ex-students of Ikkshu Gabeshawana High School, Ishwardi, Pabna organised a reunion and iftar mahfil on June 9, 2017. It was attended by former students from different batches of the institute.
