USAID awards IUB students in Video Clip Competition

IUB students Abdullah al Rhidoy from Media and Communication Department and Alvi Raihan Simanto from BBA Department won the first and third prizes for making video documentary show reels. The competition was initiated by USAID Bangladesh's Agricultural Value Chains (AVC) Project. Their video show reels highlighted how farmers embrace business thinking as a way to become self-empowered. Michael Field, Chief of Party, USAID Bangladesh's AVC Project handed over the certificates and prize money to Rhidoy and Simanto at the AVC Project office in Dhaka.

USAID Bangladesh AVC Project is working to address agricultural challenges by improving economic stability through enhanced food security in the Southern Delta region. 

Primarily, 8 students from Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University and Independent University, Bangladesh were short-listed to prepare scripts and produce AV show reels. IUB students Rhidoy won the first prize for his video on ground nut in Char Fashion and Simanto secured third position for his video on mungbean in Monpura. 

"Heroes for All" organises its  launching ceremony 

"Heroes for All", a youth focused non-profit organisation had its launching ceremony on January 28, 2017 at Long Beach Suites in Gulshan, Dhaka. The organisation aims to transform children and youth to become morally conscious and responsible global citizens who can make positive life and career choice for a purposeful life. The event was hosted by Mosharaf Yaafi, stand-up comedian, who added humour manoeuvring the event at different segments.

Coach Jim Johnson, an international motivational speaker, author and personality featured at The Oprah Winfrey Show greeted the attendees via Skype from Rochester, New York and highlighted the importance of inclusive educational and sports environment for all children and youth. Dr. Rehnuma Karim, Founder and President of Heroes for All invited everyone to make an impact through their presence in their world by realising their own gifts for humanity.

A brief panel discussion led by Monira Rahman, the Founder and President of Innovation for Well-being talked about the collaborative effort of both organisations to help the children and youth with their mental well-being. Arafat Noman, the initiator of Car Free Dhaka on February 22, and Fardin Shaan, the Founder of Helping Hands took the floor discussing their goals and dreams to make Bangladesh better and safe place to live in. The event was also attended by Quazi M. Ahmed, President of BOLD, Ziauddin Adil, producer of Ayanabaji, Tabassum Kaiser, Vice Chairperson of City Bank and many others.

BRACU hosts Dr. Ashraf Ali from Boeing

BRAC University (BRACU) hosted a senior engineer working at The Boeing Company, Dr. Ashraf Ali, to talk on the "Essential Aspects of Aircraft Design & Analysis" at the university auditorium in the capital.

Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D., VC of BRACU, presented the introduction, reiterating the need for students to look beyond their classrooms and certificates to take note of the changing world and the competitions it presents.

Dr. Ashraf started off by urging students to build their foundation, as he had done during his graduation at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and assuring them that every bit they were learning now would surely come to use in their later life. He said to have been a manager for more than a decade at Boeing, which has around 200,000 employees, for which he happed to gain experience on a myriad of disciplines.

Replying to questions from a good number of students and faculty members, he said Bangladesh had a lot of uses to engineering applications involving core knowledge in real life production processes. The event was organised by BRACU Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations (OCSAR).

SEU student achieves 5th position at BEO 2017

Md. Sumon Ali of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Southeast University (SEU) achieved the 5th position out of the 10 positions at the 2nd Bangladesh Electronics Olympiad 2017 held at Curzon Hall, University of Dhaka. It was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Electronics Society (BES) and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of DU on January 27, 2017. 

Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, VC of DU inaugurated the programme as the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Pro VC (Admin) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present in the certificate and prize giving ceremony as the chief guest. Besides, 14 students of different years of EEE Department of SEU and more than 100 participants from 24 public and private universities took part in this Olympiad.

Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan, Chairman of EEE Department of SEU was the Chairman of Publication Committee of BEO 2017. 

UIU organises orientation programme for Spring 2017 

United International University (UIU) organised a two-day long programme held on January 25-26, 2017 for the newly admitted students of Spring 2017 trimester at the UIU Auditorium. Newly admitted students in the School of Business & Economics and School of Science and Engineering participated in the orientation programme.

UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, presided over the ceremonies while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Dean, School of Business & Economics, Prof. Dr. Abul Hasnat Md. Golam Azam, MBA Program Coordinator Dr. Badruzza Miya, BBA Program Director, Dr. Joarder Md. Hasanur Raihan, EEE Head, Prof. Dr. Md. Raqibul Mostafa, CSE Head, Dr. Salekul Islam, Registrar Prof. A.S.M.Salahuddin, Director of Students Affairs, Manjurul Haque Khan spoke on the programme. Treasurer, Heads of different departments, teachers, guardians, students and the invited guests were present.

Danish Ambassador visits AIUB

Danish Ambassador Mikael Hemniti Winther visited the Department of Media and Mass Communication of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) on January 26, 2017. He was invited by Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, Vice Chancellor of AIUB, who showed him around the Animation Lab, Media Studio, 3D Printer, Animation Film produced by the students of MMC in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences Building.

On the occasion, AIUB Performing Arts Club, along with musician Minar, and a student of MMC department performed for the Ambassador. A music lover and musician by himself, the Ambassador performed two songs for the students, one of which is written by him. He later performed alongside the AIUB Performing Arts Club.

Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean (FASS), Advisor of MMC Department, Directors, Head of the departments, faculty members, officials and students of AIUB were also present in the programme.
