EU hosts 5th Intra-University Fresher's Multimedia Presentation Contest

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Eastern University (EU) arranged the 5th Intra-University Fresher's Multimedia Presentation Contest on December 26 at the Seminar Hall of Eastern University (EU) in association with Eastern University Computing Club.

Freshers of all Departments of Eastern University are taught Computer Fundamental course where multimedia presentation skill is expected to be developed as an emphasized outcome of the course. This contest is devised by the CSE Department as a tool to produce a competitive 

outcome of this specific course. 

In the prize giving ceremony, the Pro-VC of EU, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury was present as the chief guest, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (E&T), Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam was present as the special guest and Chairperson of CSE, Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman was present as the session chair.  Their final ranks 

were declared by the Pro-VC.

Raihan Chowdhury of Business Administration became the champion, Naima Jannat Mitu of Law Department became the first runner-up and Shariar Mahmud of Business Department became the second runner-up.

UIU organises Iconic Perspective

The United International University Business Club organised a grooming session titled "Iconic Perspective" at the UIU campus on December 20, 2016.

Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, VC of UIU inaugurated the programme where Syed Gousul Alam Shaon, Managing Partner and Country Head of Grey Advertising Bangladesh Ltd, Naveed Mahbub, Founder and CEO of Naveed's Comedy Club, Solaiman Shukhon, Head of Marketing of Aamra Networks Limited, Shariful Islam, Founder and Managing Director of Bangladesh Brand Forum, Ajeyo Rohitashwo Al Quazi, Group Chief People Officer of Aamra Companies were present as guests.

The programme intended to inspire students along with giving them a glimpse of their future options, career opportunities, skill development methods and tips for enhancing in the path of success. 

Spring 2017 Students' Orientation Programme at WUB

Spring Semester 2017 students' orientation programme of the Faculty of Science & Engineering, Faculty of Business Studies and Faculty of Arts & Humanity, World University of Bangladesh (WUB) was held on December 30, 2016 in the auditorium of the university. VC, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury graced the occasion as chief guest while Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer and Prof. Dr. Musfiq  Mannan  Choudhury, Acting Chairman, BOT were present as special guests. Prof. Dr. M Nurul Islam, Pro-VC chaired the session. Controller of Examinations, Registrar, Proctor, Deans of the Faculties and Heads of the Departments spoke on the occasion. About five hundred students of different programmes were present in this ceremony. 

B. Arch programme of SEU receives IAB accreditation

B. Arch programme of the Department of Architecture, Southeast University (SEU) received Accreditation Certificate from Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). After through observation and scrutiny, IAB agreed to offer this accreditation.

IAB President Dr. Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, IAB Vice President Ar. Jalal Ahmed, IAB General Secretary Ar. Qazi Muhammad Arif, IAB Secretary (Education) Ar. Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad handed over the Certificate of Accreditation to the VC in person on December 28, 2016.

Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), Chairman, Department of Architecture Prof. Meer Mobashsher Ali, Chief Coordinator Wing Commander AHM Mostafa Morshed (Retd.), Dean, School of Science and Engineering Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan and all faculty members of Architecture Department, SEU were present on the occasion.

Science Council of Asia elects DIU Professor as President

Emeritus Professor and founder Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University (DIU), Dr. Aminul Islam, has been elected as the President of Science Council of Asia (SCA) for 2016- 2018 at the 16th Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference held in the Philippines. Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) is a member of SCA and Prof. Aminul Islam, as the President of BAS representing Bangladesh was nominated for this position. Prof. Islam was also the VC of National University, Bangladesh, from 1996-2000. 

Prof. Islam began his career in the Department of Soil Science of University of Dhaka as Junior Lecturer in 1956 and became Professor in 1973. He was awarded Independence Day Award in 1991 for his contribution in the Liberation War.

As the new President of SCA, Prof. Aminul Islam is confident that SCA will make continuous progress and create a footprint in global sustainable development, promoting scientific cooperation among the members.

NDEC to organise National English Carnival

Notre Dame English Carnival is organising "Bank Asia presents 3rd National English Carnival powered by The Daily Star", on January 12-14, 2017 at the college campus. This carnival will be slightly different from the previous two as new competitions will be included this year. Undoubtedly, this carnival is one of the best platforms to showcase various English-based activities and programmes. The main aim of this carnival is to attract pupils to learn, use and love the English language in a festive learning environment. This year the competitions are Spell Master, English Olympiad, Literature Quiz, Extempore Speech, Turn the Coat, Poem Recitation, Multimedia Presentation, Instant Story Writing, Wall Magazine Presentation, Composition Submission, Parody News Reading, Anagrams and Crossword. The registration is completely free.

NUST to host first MUN conference

On New Year's Eve 2017, the Noakhali Science & Technology University Model United Nations Association (NSTUMUNA), a club of Noakhali University of Science and Technology declared the date of their first ever Model United Nations conference, it is going to be commence May 4, 2017 with a grand opening, and close on May 7, 2017. The club will welcome around 250 delegates from different universities/colleges from around the country. The club arranged Intra-NSTUMUN '16, which was a massive success with three extravagant committees and 110 vivid delegates. After the grand success of this conference the officials came up with a plan to host the MUN at a national level. The theme for 2017's conference will be "Empowering Citizens as a Manifesto to Peace". The main purpose would be to find solutions of selected calamities from a wide range of research and discussion by the delegates," said Shanzida Begum, the club's Head of Delegates Affairs.
