EWU students achieve success  

Center for the Study of Genocide and Justice (CSGJ) of the Liberation War Museum (LWM) organised its 3rd Winter School on "Genocide, Justice and the Issue of Impunity" from December 13-20, 2016 at the National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO), Dhaka. A total of 32 students from 18 universities of Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Nepal, and Bangladesh participated in this residential workshop and training programme.

Esrat Jahan Siddiki and Jannatul Shareat Disha, students of the Department of Law, EWU achieved the "Academic Excellence Award" and "Best Performance in Non Judicial Hearing Award" respectively.

Dr. Mohammad Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT of EWU and Prof. Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, VC, congratulated the winners for their outstanding performance.


IUB launches the IUB Archive

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) launched its own Archive through an inaugural ceremony on December 21, 2016 at its own campus in Bashundhara. IUB Archive is an initiative of IUB Library for preserving historically significant documents and materials reflecting the origin and progression of the university. This Archive will now endeavour gathering precious, authentic and remarkable records of IUB and ensure sustainable management of those records.

Collections of IUB Archive include various documents that start from 1993, visual and electronic records, manuscripts, publications and other historical materials documenting the intellectual, cultural, administrative and social life of the university. 

Dr. A Majeed Khan, President Emeritus and founder President of IUB inaugurated the Archive while Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB, Towhid Samad, Chairman, BOT, Chittagong Independent University, Prof. M Omar Rahman, VC, Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC (Designate), Deans and Heads of different Schools and Departments, Librarian, and senior members of the faculty and management of IUB were present on this occasion.


AIUB hosts Marketing Masterminds 2016

Department of Marketing, AIUB organised an event based on new product idea generation and development of marketing strategies entitled "AIUB Marketing Masterminds 2016" on December 8, 2016. The objective of the event was to improve the analytical abilities of the students and to offer an opportunity where they can exercise their marketing knowledge by participating in different creative tasks.  

It was a daylong event divided into 3 different rounds - Idea Generation, Development of Print Advertisement, and Marketing Strategies Development & Presentation. Approximately 200 marketing major students divided into 50 different groups participated in this event. 

The programme was officially inaugurated by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, VC, AIUB along with Nadia Anwar, Vice Chairman, BOT and Vice President, Student Affairs of AIUB, and Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Pro-VC and Dean, FBA. Among the special guests were Capt. (Retd.) AB Tajul Islam, MP, and Chairman, Standing Committee, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Bikash Kishore Das, Additional Secretary, Statistics and Informatics Division, Ministry of Planning. 

The event was organised by Hamidul Islam and Stanley Rodrick, Assistant Professors, Department of Marketing, in coordination with Dr. Anisur Rahman Faroque, Head, Department of Marketing and Dr. Sahin Sarker, Assistant Professor of the department. Lira Group of Industries supported the event as the key sponsor.


UIU student receives IEEE award 

A N M Nasimunnabi, final year student of the Department of Electrical and Electrical Engineering of United International University, received the "Best Humanitarian Impact Award" at the 2016 IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2016) held in All India Shivaji Memorial Society's Institute of Information Technology, Pune, India during December 19-21, 2016. He is the past chair of IEEE UIU Student Branch and currently volunteering as Student Representative for IEEE Bangladesh Section. He is the team leader of the award-winningproject "Smart Device for Visually Impaired People", and other contributors of this project are Aman Ullah, Ashikur Rahman and Omiya Hassan – all of them are Members of IEEE UIU Student Branch.

The project that Nasimunnabi presented was to assist visually challenged people with audible information about the object and location. The device takes snapshots of the object and says the exact name of the object – also it says the name of the location by taking latitude and longitude from the GPS of user's smartphone/watch.
