NSU establishes Institutional Quality Assurance Cell 

With an aim to improve quality of teaching, learning and research comparing to the globally renowned world class education, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was established at North South University (NSU). It was formally inaugurated with an inception workshop on July 21, 2016. IQAC of NSU organised the inception workshop on "Quality Assurance in Higher Education" on July 21, 2016 at the Faculty Lounge of NSU. This workshop marked the formal beginning of IQAC activities at NSU which was a part of the quality assurance initiative under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh and funded by the World Bank. 

Azim Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BOT, NSU shared his speech as the chief guest while Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, NSU chaired the programme. Dr. Nazmun Nahar, Director, IQAC, NSU delivered the welcome address and extended the vote of thanks to all. Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head, QAU, HEQEP, University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh and Prof. Dr. M. Abul Kashem, QA Specialist, QAU, HEQEP, UGC were present as special guests in the workshop. In the technical session, presentations were made on various aspects of quality assurance in higher education. Prof Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, Registrar, Deans, Directors, Chairman and teachers from different departments and faculties of NSU attended the workshop.

UAP Chairman nominated for Asia Education Leadership Award

Qayum Reza Chowdhury, a noted educationist, businessman, former President of BGBHA and Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), University of Asia Pacific (UAP) has been nominated for the Asia Education Leadership Award presented by the World Education Congress, CMO Asia with CMO Council as its strategic partner and Stars of the Industry Group as a research partner.

Chowdhury is the first nominee of the leadership award from the private sector. He achieved this award for surpassing several levels of excellence and setting an example of being a role model of exemplary leadership, building various institutions through leadership, innovation, academic and industry interface. 

He has been invited to accept the award in person on August 5, 2016 at Pan Pacific Marina Square, Singapore.

Meeting on "Security and Law & Order" at WUB

World University of Bangladesh (WUB) arranged a meeting on "Security and Law & Order" on July 20, 2016 at the auditorium of the university. The meeting was presided over by VC of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury and attended by Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-VC, Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer and Prof. Dr. Musfiq M. Choudhury, Secretary, BOT, Deans of different faculties, Registrar, Proctor, Heads of the departments and faculties of the university. In the meeting all the heads of departments and teachers were requested to keep strong vigilance on the activities of the students in general and if any activities contrary to present situation are found, that should be reported to the university authority immediately. It may be mentioned that a 15 member central committee on Security and Law & Order was earlier formed followed by committees of similar nature at the departmental level.

AIUB holds co-ordination meeting with parents 

Under the initiatives of the Office of Student Affairs of the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), a day-long meeting was held on July 23, 2016 at AIUB campus for exchange of views and coordination between the parents/ guardians of students with the AIUB authority. The main aim of the meeting was to inform its students about academic and non-academic activities, expression of healthy mental condition, social awareness and student security on recent happenings and prevailing situation in the country. The meeting also discussed about the directive of Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission and law enforcing agencies and to find out solutions. The parents and guardians who willfully attended the meeting appreciated the action taken by the university authority and agreed to co-operate. 

Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Registrar Prof. M.A. Quaiyum, Director (Student Affairs) Manzur H. Khan, Departmental Heads, faculty members, officials of AIUB were present at the meeting.

IUBDC successfully organises IUB Ascension 2016

A national-level 3-day long inter school debate tournament titled "IUB Ascension 2016" concluded on July 23, 2016 at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The university organised this tournament to encourage the young students to be more pragmatic, insightful and exposed to the real world which will eventually enable them taking leaderships in future. 60 teams from 28 different English and Bengali medium schools from and outside of Dhaka participated in this national level inter school debate tournament. Academia School of Dhaka clinched the championship trophy of this tournament while Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Dhaka became the runner-up.

Chief guest of the programme, A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (the Founding Trust of IUB), trustees of the university, VC Prof. M Omar Rahman and Deans of different Schools of IUB distributed trophies and prize money to the champion and runner-up teams. Towhid Bin Muzaffar, Head, Department of English, IUB, delivered the formal vote of thanks. Members of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Debate Club received special awards as recognition of their splendid contribution for making the tournament a grand success.

"Where Art Meets the Masses" at ULAB

On July 20, 2016, ULAB arranged a seminar, "Where Art Meets the Masses" for providing expert advice to the students for their "Voiceless Bangladeshi" project. The keynote speaker of this seminar was Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy, editorial cartoonist at Dhaka Tribune and associate editor of Unmad magazine. Morshed Mishu, editorial cartoonist at The Bangladesh Today and assistant editor of Unmad magazine, was the guest of this seminar. Aquib Ul Wadud Alam and Md. Ata Islam Khan Mojlish, students of ULAB were the other speakers of the event.

In the beginning of the event Aquib Ul Wadud and Md. Ata Islam khan Mojlish shared experiences about Voiceless Bangladeshi projects. Then Morshed Mishu took the floor and talked about methods of wall painting. Last to speak was the keynote speaker Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy, who focused more on idea pitching. He shared his ideas on deforestation and urbanisation to give a clear description to students and followed by a question answer session.

The "Voiceless Bangladeshi" project is an initiative to teach the students of public relations how to apply theory into practical projects and also see the power of their message, leaving a mark in community. DUPS organises  3rd National Photography Festival

To enhance the skills and art of photography in Bangladesh, DUPS is arranging the National Photography Festival for the third time from July 29 to August 2, 2016 at Gallery 2 & 3, National Art Gallery, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This National Photography Festival will be jointly organised by Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy which will further be associated by Anontex Group Bangladesh Limited. This photography festival will bring about a host of photographers from schools, colleges, universities and professionals/ freelancers all under one roof. 

The total of 180 photographs will be exhibited out of which 30 belong to the school and college level, 40 belong to the university level and 50 from professionals. Two best photographs from the school and college level, 3 best photographs from the university level and 3 best photographs from the professional level will be awarded.

Three different workshops would be arranged by DUPS - one for school and college level, one for university level and a combined one where everyone can participate. The workshops will be held on July 30-31 and August 1 respectively.
