BSMRMU launches certificate courses

The first ever maritime university of the country Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh (BSMRMU) started its journey as the sole institution for maritime higher education. Recently the university organised an orientation programme to launch two short certificate courses titled "Marine Insurance & Claim" and "Dangerous Goods Handling & Transportation" at its temporary campus at Pallabi, Mirpur in the capital. 

The Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Governance and Policy, Commodore M Z Alamgir, was present as chief guest at the ceremony. The resource person, the faculty members, participants, and the officers of the university were present at the occasion. The chief guest said that this was a historical moment for this specialised university and these courses have been undertaken to provide professional knowledge and practical insight on the topics. Participants would be able to understand the various aspects of marine insurance including hull and machineries, cargo, liability and P & I as well as how to handle claims, dangerous goods and its safe handling. The course will help to learn the background of IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL as well as a detailed understanding of IMDG Code etc, he added.

The participants will be able to work for the ship owners, managers, terminal operators, ICDs, banking and insurance section etc. The university is determined to contribute and play an important role for the development of maritime human resource of the nation and uplift the nation's economy to "Blue Economy" by creating educated, professional and technically skilled manpower.

Stamford holds emergency meeting against militancy 

In the wake of the recent terrorist activities, an emergency meeting was held at the Head office of Stamford University Bangladesh to bolster security against terrorism and devise strategy to carry out anti-terrorist campaign in the campus. In the meeting a mourning proposal was taken for the deceased victims who were brutally killed at the Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan. The heinous attack perpetrated by the terrorists was condemned. 

Necessary directives were given to all concerned to ensure the safety of the campuses of the university, and to guard against the militant thoughts and indoctrination among the students. A committee headed by the Pro-VC was formed to explore the detection procedure of absentee students in classes to comply with government's direction. Mechanism for creating awareness against terrorism was also discussed in the meeting.

The chairmen of all departments were advised to monitor students' activities and attitude to keep track of their attendance in classes. Checking of baggages and vehicles of students and employees in the campuses were also stressed in the meeting.

The Founder and President, Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. M.A. Hannan, other trustee members, the VC, Prof. Dr. M. Feroze Ahmed, Pro-VC, Dean, Chairmen, Registrar, Treasurer and Proctor were present in the meeting.

DIU holds discussion on career challenges and opportunities for freshers

To face the professional challenges for the fresher's graduate of the country, Daffodil International University has taken an initiative to form "Online Industry –Academia Forum" with the combination and active participation of eminent corporate leaders of different national and multinational companies. This was declared on July 16, 2016 at a round table discussion on "Career Challenges and Opportunities for the Fresher's in Bangladesh" held at the Banquet Hall of the university. This forum will work to modernise the education system, introduce time befitting course curriculum and find out the way of how to fit the graduates as per requirement of job market. 

Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC, DIU was present as the chief guest at the discussion. Dr. Hafiz Md. Babu, former founder chairman of the Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department has been appointed as Pro-VC of National University of Bangladesh for a period of 4 years.
