NSU receives ACBSP Certificate of Accreditation

Benajir Ahmed, Member of the BOT, North South University (NSU), received the Certificate of Accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), USA, from Bruce Stetar, Chairman, Board of Commissioners, ACBSP, and Dr. Steve Parscale, Chief Accreditation Officer, ACBSP on June 19, 2016 in Atlanta, USA. Benajir Ahmed was invited by ACBSP to celebrate the recent accreditation of NSU's School of Business and Economics (SBE) in USA. 

NSU SBE initially received the ACBSP Accreditation candidacy in 2014 and after meeting all requirements and continuous improvement, ACBSP recognised the outstanding quality through accreditation in November 2015. NSU became the first university in Bangladesh to offer American accredited programmes.

IUB holds Summer Art Exhibition

The Art Club of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a two-week long Summer Art Exhibition on the theme "Complexity to Simplicity" at the SLASS Foyer of the university campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Under the guidance of Nazir Ahmed, Asst. Professor and instructor of the course Arts and Aesthetics, the students enrolled for the course in Fall 2015 presented the theme in their art works.

 

Debating for a Cause: Funding Team  Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Debating Council has been spreading English debate across the nation since 2006 and is entrusted with the selection and training of the national team that represents Bangladesh at the World Schools Debate Championship every year. So when the five debaters for team Bangladesh this year were finalised to fly over to Stuttgart, Germany for competing in WSDC this year, BDC wasted no time organising a fundraiser tournament for them. This open tournament was held on the June 17-18 in the UIU campus. 

In the finals, BRAC alumni Aaqib Farhan Hossain and Aga Khan School 12th grader Aandishah Tehzeeb Samara were awarded champions. The best speaker of the tournament was IBA alumni Saad Ashraf.

Also at the event, CEO of web-based education programme, 10 Minute School, Ayman Sadiq and chair of Bangladesh Debating Council, Rishad Sharif signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work as long term partners as a pioneering initiative to teach debating over an online platform.

 

UIU AIMS Lab receives  Innovation Grant from PMO

Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary Systems Lab (AIMS) of United International University received an innovation grant of BDT 23.5 lacs from Access to Information (a2i) Programme, Prime Minister's Office to develop Autism Screening Application. The project, "Autism Barta: A mobile interactive tools for automatic screening of autism" will be developed with collaboration of Jatiya Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation (JPUF), Ministry of Social Welfare, IPNA, NDD Trust and other relevant organisations to make it effective for implementation in future. 

Dr. Khondakar Abdullah Al Mamun, Director, AIMS Lab and Associate Professor, Department of CSE, UIU received the award from Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Admin), PMO and project director, a2i Programme on June 7, 2016. Nasreen Ara Surat Amin, Managing Director (Additional Secretary), Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nurul Huda, Department of CSE, UIU and other distinguished personalities were present in this award giving ceremony.

 

EDU gets books from University of Oxford

East Delta University has received books as gifts from the St. Cross College Library of the University of Oxford. This consignment comprises volumes of encyclopaedia, dictionary and atlas - all published from Oxford University Press. There are also a number of books on social sciences included in the consignment. 

Sayeed Al Noman, Founder Vice Chairman of EDU was handed over the books by Sheila Allcoke, Librarian of St. Cross College in a formal ceremony recently. Among others, Susan Barrington, Development Director of Alumni Relations of the college was also present. Research based higher education and development of strategic leadership in Bangladesh was prioritised in their discussion.

 

APQN awards AIUB  as Best Model IQA University

The Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), an aggrupation of 166 universities and organisations from 38 countries and territories in Asia and the Pacific searched for Best Model Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) University or Institution for 2016. The American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) is an institutional member including 4 other universities and the University Grants Commission (UGC) here in Bangladesh. It was chosen as the Best Model IQA University by APQN. The panel of international jurors has chosen AIUB for demonstrating a good practice that has potential of adaptation among APQN Members. This is an award to institutional members who have committed to quality assurance mechanism and quality culture building. The selection was announced the Board of APQN during the APQN's International Conference held on May 26-27, 2016.  

 

ASAUB appoints new Dean for  Faculty of Business

Prof. Iqbal Ahmad, former Professor and Director, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka has recently joined ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) as the Dean, Faculty of Business. He served as a teacher in IBA, University of Dhaka for 38 years. 

Prof. Iqbal Ahmad earned his B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. from the University of Dhaka. After that Prof. Ahmad earned his Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and Labour Economics from ISS, The Hague, Holland and M.Sc. in Industrial Administration (Major in Marketing) from Aston University, UK. He also served as the Director of Bangladesh Biman and Sadharan Bima Corporation. He served as a Neutral Member of Minimum Wages Board. Prof. Iqbal Ahmad also worked as the Consultant of different local and international organisations including Asian Development Bank and World Bank. He has authored many books on Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations and Labour Movement, Organisational Behaviour, Personnel Management, etc.
