UAP and Chakri.com organise Career Fair

A two-day long career fair was held at the campus of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on April 29-30, 2016.

Prof. Jamilur Reza Chouddhury, VC, UAP inaugurated the fair as chief guest and Prof. Abdul Matin Patwari, Professor Emeritus, UAP, Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, UAP  and Anisul Hoque, Associate Editor, Daily Prothom Alo were present as special guests.

On the first day of the fair, two seminars on "Opportunity in Call Centre and BPO Industries" and "CV Writing and Facing Interview: Do's and Don'ts" were held as well. There were 18 different organisations including software, multinational companies and NGOs who setup their stalls for providing information regarding jobs among fresh graduates.

There were two seminars on second day "Opportunities in ICT industry for non-ICT Graduates" and "Local and Global Opportunities in ICT industry", where speakers from different organisations graced the sessions.

 

AIUB to take part in International Rover Competition 2016

A group of undergraduate engineering students from American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) has been selected to represent Bangladesh at the International Rover Competition from June 2-4, 2016 organised by the Mars Society, USA. The competition is hosted in Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS), Utah, USA and initially had 63 universities applying from all over the world. AIUB is honored to be among the final 30 teams who have been invited for the semifinal round. AIUB along with two other universities will represent Bangladesh in this prestigious world-class competition among the top universities of the world.  

The team AIUB Robotic Crew (ARC) named the rover "ARC-71" and worked for over a year on this project. The team successfully beat other teams from USA, Canada, Poland, Turkey and other countries to secure their place at the top 30. The vote of thanks was given by Md. Lutfar Rahman, Director (Public Relations) at a press conference with mentioning the name of Rancon Group and First Security Islami Bank Limited for their sponsorship. A Q&A session was also held with the participation of media personnel.

 

NUB organises "Career Talk" for business students

Department of Business Administration, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) organised a career counseling programme titled "Career Talk" for final year business students at its Dhanmondi Campus.

The session was conducted by the distinguished industrial experts Mohamed K. Haq, MD and Lead Trainer for Career Builders Ltd. and Executive Director, BIIS, Syed Nowsher Ali, DMD, The Premier Bank Ltd. and Tareq Uz Zaman, Director Strategy Planning and Brand Marketing, Aftab Bohumukhi Firms Ltd., Jahurul Islam Group. Around seventy students participated in the programme.

Prof. Mustafa Kamal, Dean, Faculty of Business was present as chair of the session. The overall arrangement of the programme was initiated by Afia Akter, Assistant Professor and coordinator, MBA Programme. Among others, Md. Lutfor Rahman, Director, CMDR, Dr. Md. Ekramol Islam, Head, BBA, Md. Faizullah Kawshik, Additional Registrar and other respectable faculty members were also present.

The session was highly interactive and there were discussions on the present industrial practices and requirements and thereby preparing students for job market.

 

Department of Sociology reunion at SUST

Former and current students and teachers of the Department of Sociology of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) spent two days with full of joy, togetherness and happiness.

The department celebrated its reunion of students and teacher. The event ended on April 30, 2016. The Daily Star was the media partner of the programme.

On April 29, the programme inaugurated with the registration and collection of souvenirs in the morning. The opening ceremony was chaired by the Head of the department, Dr. Jashim Uddin. The VC of SUST, Prof. Dr. Aminul Haque Bhuiyan was present as the chief guest and Dr. Zia Rahman, Chairman of Criminology Department of DU spoke as the keynote speaker.

After a grand rally, the alumni of the department gathered to recall memories and in the evening the cultural programme delighted the attendees. Joler Gaan, a folk-fusion musical troop fascinated the audience.

On the closing day, a career guidance programme was arranged. In the afternoon, the alumni played sports and a debate was also arranged in which the former students competed with the current students. The two-day long programme ended with the cultural presentation of the departments students. 

 

NSU hosts fresher's orientation 

The orientation ceremony of newly enrolled undergraduate students of Summer 2016 of North South University (NSU) was held on April 30, 2016 at Bashundhara campus in the city. 

M. A. Kashem, Chairman, BOT, NSU graced the ceremony as the chief guest. BOT Members Rehana Rahman, Yesmin Kamal and Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer were present as special guests, where Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC chaired the ceremony. 

The chief guest said, "To establish Private University Act, we worked hard for three years that resulted with the opening of higher education in private sector of the country. We feel proud to let you know that the people request to admit their children in our university but it was never an openhanded job; the NSU graduates have high demand in the job market." 

Prof. Selim Sarwar, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof. G.U Ahsan, Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences; Prof. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences; Prof. M. Mahboob Rahman, Dean, School of Business and Economics; Md. Shahjahan, Registrar addressed the students. Chairs of various departments, faculty members, administrative members, guardians and other dignitaries took part in the occasion. 

 

CBA10 Youth Conference held

CBA10 completed its 5th youth conference on community-based adaptations in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Over 150 youths from across the country participated in the event. This year's theme concentrated on "Enhancing Urban Community Resilience". The conference was hosted jointly by ICCCAD, Plan International Bangladesh, Save the Children, WaterAid, ActionAid, BYEI, IIED, IUB and NSU. The youth event was hosted by NSU on April 26-27, 2016.

This year's conference became a platform for the youth to be the agents of change. Some of the key topics covered were gender, hygiene, governance, migration, leadership and innovative thinking. 

The question raised by the youth was not "why" but "how" different issues are related. Encouraging them to participate is not only a viable solution but a mandatory one. The conference's goal was to create a platform for them to speak up against the problems and at the same time learn on different aspects to find solutions. 

At the closing session, Nahim Razzaq, MP, Standing Committee, Ministry of Youth and Sports, said, "Climate change is a big issue and crisis for a country like Bangladesh. We must work together with the youth to combat its impacts."
