The new baby Benz – A class

Mercedes Benz recently launched the smallest car in its model range – the new A class. With a full range of luxury features crammed into its compact body, the A class stands to be the most well equipped hatchback in the global market. With a luxury interior featuring a widescreen similar to the E and S class models, as well as tech like Active Distance Assist, Active Lane Chang Assist and Active Steering Assist, the A class is probably a little too loaded. Not to worry though, Benz will most likely have both basic and performance versions to complement the range.

It definitely looks good. The new Benz family face looks rakish and aggressive, and has a hint of the future about it, as the German luxury brand moves away from its traditional executive subtlety and caters to a younger, hip crowd. The face definitely works better on the A-class rather than the bloated new CLS, and this bold new direction will be likely to produce some opinion dividing cars in the very near future.

Powered by a 1.4 and 2.0 litre four cylinder with 160 HP and 221 HP respectively, the A-class has the high efficiency outputs expected in this segment. The 1.4 motor should do well in Bangladesh, if Rancon Motors Ltd decides to bring it into the market. But then our local market aren't too big on hatchbacks - especially luxury ones which tend to be pretty expensive for the average new car buyer. Still, would be great to see a few roaming our roads in AMG guise, with bright red paint.
