Security beefed up at SC, more sought

The Supreme Court authority sought additional reinforcement after security was beefed up at the court today, a day after three bombs were found from two of its courtrooms.

A letter has been issued to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner in this regard, Supreme Court Registrar SM Kuddus Zaman told reporters at his office today.

The letter sought ten unarmed policemen at the court building to frisk suspicious people and objects and take necessary measures if faced with threat, he said.

The government had raised the 130 policemen guard to 150 personnel for the SC today, he said. “But we need more security inside the courtrooms.”

Kuddus Zaman said the authorities were now checking the metal detector archways and CCTV cameras at the court building to determine whether they were functional or not.

Yesterday, law enforcers recovered three crude bombs from inside two courtrooms, spreading panic among judges, lawyers, litigants, staffs and all others concerned over security.
